Battle reports

Battle reports

My first Warmahordes battle report! From my first proper battle!

25 points each: Troll v's Troll

I took:
Borka Kegslayer & keg carrier
Axer
Mauler
Max fennblades + UA
Fell Caller Hero
Stone scribe chronicler

He took:
eDoomshaper
Mulg
Max champions
Min scattergunners + UA
Fell Caller hero

I won! But I get the feeling that he kind of let me...

Fennblades + Iron flesh from Borka (to Def 15) with Heros tradgedy from the SSC (anyone killing a fenn is knocked down) Means that the fenns are almost impossible to kill (it took his champions + scattergunners 5 turns to take them down to 3 men). Then in my turn I get a free vengence attack + Warcry from the Fell Caller for +2 to hit, combined with Borka's Mosh pit & they all fall over again! He spend the entire game on his bottom - but the champions are rock hard!

Mulg went for a flank kill, past the Fenn/Champion tar pit and strait into my axer (I'd seen this comming, left the axer for bait with Borka & the Mauler behind him), and boxed the axer in one turn with no FURY needed. But Borka was unhappy, cast mosh pit & whaked him on the head, knocking him over. So the Mauler went in with free hits & boxed Mulg with a shed load of boosted attacks.

After that we were pretty much done, I still had a mauler & Borka & a couple of Fenns, he had his full unit of scattergunners & Doomie. But Doomie had had to advance to keep Mulg in check, he couldn't get away from me fast enough. Borka feated & ran into Doomie - bing bang wallah wallah bing bang - Doomies dead & Borka's the man!

I love Warmachine! I think my opponent's list wasn't all that & a packet of potato chips, and I think Mulg running around the tarpit was a gimmie to me - If he'd sent Mulg into the fenns to finish them, he'd still have a couple of (poorly) champions, and a full unit of scatters against Borka & his beasts. That would have been a very different story... Still, from his point of view it's good to run with the mantra 'don't crush the noob' I suppose, so I can't grumble (in his shoes I would probably have done the same thing) - I think I need to spell out to people that I'm here to be crushed - you don't learn by winning!

I have 2 games lined up for next week - Skorne & Retribution. I watched them play yesterday & they aren't a great deal more experienced than me, so I won't get the feeling that they let me win!

Woo hoo!

2 more games last night. Both against a Merc list, but 2 different players using the same list.

I used the 25 point list from above. Don't know what I was fighting but it was kinda like this:
Caster with a bionic arm
Heavy shooty jack
Heavy melee jack
Light arc node jack
6 man squad of shooty things with crossbow
Melee solo with weapon master & poison
Shooty solo with a 4 shot gun & more special rules than you can shake a stick at

Win to me by caster kill on both games. The mauler ripped through 5 jacks in 2 games taking practically no damage in the process. The fenns did exactly what it said on the tin & tied stuff up for ages, killing the shooty unit in both games eventually. Borka's Iron Flesh + the SSC giving concelment gives Def 17 to ranged weapons on turn 1 & I'm in combat on turn 2 - ha ha, you can't hit me shennanigans ahoy!

The axer - erm, still not done a lot - he's looking a bit superfluos at the moment - his animus is good, but everytime I want to use it on him or the mauler I'll be out of Borka's fury range, so I never use it. But I should have used it on Borka on one occasion in game 1.

The second game was very tense. I intentionally left Borka exposed near the end (all he had was the caster & melee jack tied up by 3 remaining fenns). Borka showed himself to the enemy caster & left 2 fury for transfers. The enemy caster with 6 focus on him left combat wit the fenns & went for Borka, taking him down to 1 life (although I still had a spare transfer, so not all bad). The caster was then charged by the mauler, hit twice, chain attacked for a double handed throw & then charged again by Borka - brutal stuff - Borka kill! Was a bit closer than anticipated though - I'll not do that again without the keggie giving him stumbling drunk to get out of there!

And Keggie killed a solo! Woop woop!

I'm still doing things in the wrong order - I activated Borka 3 times in 2 games before I should have meaning that I couldn't do what I had planned. I keep boxing myself in too - especially the 2 solos - it's hard working out where to keep them as they are both vital to the fenns on turns 1-3 (after that the fenns are thinned out & the mauler should be in by then). But I'm getting there - I'm starting to be able to read the game now - which is nice...
