If you want to have real arguments just remember to play Paranoia.
Where every player in the party is actively trying to screw over everyone else (if the GM is doing his job properly)
Epic levels of moaning when you get killed for sitting on the wrong colored chair.
When you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true.
Unless it's a meteorite falling to Earth, which will destroy all life, then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for.
Unless it's death by meteorite.

to be fair with wfb there are some aspects that are still seeming a bit strange tbh, but thats due to old habits - my regular opponent is still annoyed over the special weapon overule cos he wants to buy spears, but use hand weapons - so much so that he wants to house rule it. i plan to veto that though.

essentially belly, what i'd say is is you have the rules and have the models anyway, give it a year - even if you just play it once a month, give it some time to get used to, then if you still don't like, sack it off

i had the same response to you when 2nd ed finished and 3rd ed arrived - i didn't play again until 4th ed, but i wish now i'd have given it a go - i'd probably have got some armies painted!

I don't know it this is necessarily a GW dominant forum. I guess most posts are about GW games but that's because it's what most posters here play. There is also an FoW contingent as well as a number of MTG players. We do have posts from time to time about other games and game sustems. Sometimes GW games get supported, sometimes they get bashed. You last sentence is the best though, no matter what, we are pretty honest with each other. Most ofter, no offense is meant or taken.

In the past I played a number of the old Avalon Hill games (Tobruk, Richtofen's War, Starship Toopers, etc) and had a good 15 or so year run with D&D. Now I play 40k, but I don't think that necessarily makes me a bad person!

I don't play WFB (never did) so I can't really comment on the game, but I enjoy reading other people's thoughts and opinions. I hope you continue to post about other games, and if there are specific things about any of the games you don't like, don't hesitate to post, that's the key to open discussions.

Is it just the combat system or are other areas of the game now flawed in your opinion?
Personally, I'm liking the new system, but then I didn't get to play a lot of the last 2 editions. I feel it's like 7th edition with all the crap removed.

What do you mean too easy? Too easy to win or that the game is not complex enough?

Stu - I think you need to be a bit more verbose (less brief) in your answers.

So Point 1) Easy to Win
How so, we have never played each other at Warhammer Fantasy - would playing my Clan Pestilens force led by Skrolk be a walkover for you or for me?
I admit that I've won 8 of 10 games that I've played with the Army in 8th Edition; only 2 games was it easy to see a win after turn 2 (Example Battlefields Weekend against Orc & Goblin player had his general dead on turn 2 and 75% of his army running).

Point 2) The Rules
I agree that my original thought of having charge distance being random and artillery no longer guess range did have me thinking that the game had been "dumbed down". But the more I play the more I realise that the tactics still exist and the size of game increase allows this to appear more.
Is my Skaven Army just a close combat Horde army - No, it has elements of combat, shooting and magic; it has rank'n'file, Monsters, Skirmishers, Warmachines, Wizards and Heroes.
All these need blending together with a sprinkling of tactical genius.

I think a challenge has been declared - dare to accept?

No worries Phil your Skaven were next on my list anyway.
When do you fancy playing?
By the way when you playing FoW next as i fancy having a look at that being played?
Either the ruskies or zee germans interest me but id like to see a game played before I buy stuff.

I think stunty lol'ing at ur mention o frothers (and btw i've never seen that forum and know nothing of it) was just him expressing his opinion... which I believe is what your were bigging up frothers for; their ability to express their opinion, be it for or against, without fear or upsetting.

On another note Belly, I see you are from Redcar, do you frequent our club? We play FoW, Blitzfrieg Commander, BFG, Ancient something or other, and AT44 to name a few.... Thursday nights if you are free? :)

Following which you berate this forum for being 'gw fanboy based' - which isn't necessarily true, nor is it necessarily a negative thing if it is. Perhaps Stunty shouldn't have laughed at your other forum, but you shouldn't respond by attacking the ethics of this one if you are so open minded and broad shouldered.

I have played GW and other games for 28 years, and find this forum a good one where people are friendly, and into a range of different games - Warmachine, Magic, FOW, D+D etc.
Surely a forum 'where everyone speaks their mind without fear of upset' isn't necessarily a good place to be - here we try to speak our mind openly, but tactfully.

Now you children play nice and don't make me come down there! :profe

On topic - I still haven't gotten a game in yet, but I can see positives and negatives to the game compared with the last version. I'm sure it won't be long however till people are finding the hidden positives that outweight the negatives.
