Regen in Tournys

Postby PaddyF » Tue Mar 24, 2009 9:24 am

I am off to the Great Devourer this weekend with my VC army to get well and truly slaughtered.

Before that however there is still time to tweak my list a little. One thing I currently have is a large block of Grave Guard with my lord and a BSB with the Drakenhof Banner. I have been reading about current popular builds for such things and one theme I have come across is the popularity of flaming attacks to negate regen spells/items/abilities.

From people stacking Flamers in demon armies to everyone and their uncle taking Lord of Metal I am thinking of dropping the BSB and 125 point banner and taking a second corpse cart and some Fell Bats.

From peoples experience would paying all those points for the regen banner be wasted in an environment where fire damage is common?

im on the wrong side of WFB doubles (my first tourny) to advise on tournaments, but in my gaming experience its not like the banner will always be redundant - just against flaming attacks.

yes they are common, but not that common - it'd be like you avoiding Ethereal Creatures because magical attacks are more common.

if you want the advantage of regen, take it because of what it will work against, don't leave it because of what it doesn't work against.

whats you list looking like anyway?

The list is a horrid blasphemy against everything that is true and good. I.E. tooled up vampires and lots of min sized units of ghouls to top up with 15 power dice and a 28 strong Grave Guard Bunker.

Lost the first game to Daemons. Was a Masque (sp?) -2 ld banner army that made my lord ld 5 most of the time so he just stood there until they got into combat.

Drew the second against Orcs and Goblins. The organisation wasn't great so we only had time for 4 turns. I would be confident that if I had the full 6 I had a good chance of winning that one.

Third game I ran a Bret army off in two turns. I gave him the first turn so he marched with in my march + van hel range. Van hel'd the graveguard into one unit of Knights of the Realm that were given a good kicking, broke which caused another unit of Knights of the Realm and Knights Errent to flee.

His 2nd turn they failed to rally and all ran off the back of the board and his lord charged a unit of ghouls with his hippogriff. Which due to being 6" to a corpse cart that has cast last turn struck first, killed his mount and sent him running as well.

I was very lucky with my rolls in that game but after my luck earlier in the day I as due it.

So in the end it wasn't flaming attacks that did me in it was Daemon banners and speciak characters and spending 45 mnutes of my second game waiting for them to find me someone to play.

Other the organisation it was a good day.
