I'll be happy too if it changes the current play style of the rats.
Its boiled down to checkerboard blocks of slaves and clanrats (no upgrades) whilst maximum wizards hide in them and cast warp lightening, backed up with warp cannons and night runners. *yawn*
My mixed army has too many weak points (ie all the rest of the units in the book) to work very well.
Pity really. I haven't used them for nearly two years, and only a handful of times since 6th ed.

This is neither 40k, nor is it news or a rumour. Post moved to WFB discussion. Please post in the relevant forum in future.

And I can categorically state that Skaven will NOT be getting a codex in the future. An army book maybe, but Codex: Skaven won't be happening ;)

Doh!!! wrong board again!! sorry guys!! Newbie to forum sites in general man so I appreciate ur patience!!
Yeah they dont call them codex's they are called army books but hey thanx for the extreme sarcasm, comic book guy
Its annoying cos I love the minatures and background but they are a little on the weak side, they need a good makeover that reflects the swarm aspect of the characters!!!

You are right they need an update but nothing too radical; I think they could be "fixed" by tweaking rather than a major overhaul.

Ah yes Skaven 'Army' Book

Things I would like to see is better ways of using the army units.

Basically the only army I see using units 'other than' the basic 8 (4 Clan rat and 4 Slave) as the core is my own LOL.

The Stormvermin are good but are no match for most 'elite Troops' of any other army (save Goblins......oh they have no Elite thats right!).

I would also like to see the Rules for the ratling gun change (along with any weapon or spell that dishes out auto hits without regard for the 'to hit modifiers'!!!)

IE Choose number of dice to roll between 1 and 6 - dont roll one, see how good it is before choosing to roll another - roll all dice together - that will seperate the Slaves from the Stormvermin!!!

If a double is rolled apply the result on mishap table (applying the 'highest double if you roll more than 1)

If no double is rolled apply to hit modifiers (not range) to each dice i.e shooting at a skirmishing unit apply a -1 to each dice

Apply hits to the target

Mishap Table

1:1 or 2:2 - Gun Jams or crew forgot to load it etc - no shots this turn

3:3 or 4:4 - out of control - the gun won't stopp firing and spins the startled gunner around - randomly determine the direction of the shots - the closest unit in the direction of the dice is hit by the number of shots rolled (applying any 'to hit modifiers' as above).

5:5 or 6:6 - Catastophic explosion - place the large (5" diameter) Template over the team and and unit hit by the template takes S4 hits equal to the number of models covered or partially covered. Once this has been worked out remove the ratling gun and crew.

I think that could work. The ratling gun right now is a bit silly - you can have guys hiding in a building on -3 to hit but the rats don't care. They currently just roll to see how many hits they get on you...

... unless you've been reading the rules wrong!

Other than that, I think the rats are kind of OK - some minor stuff here and there and the Rat Ogres need beefing up and made to be worth taking.

No the ratling gun doesn't need to roll to hit, but 7th ed has made weapon teams very vulnerable as they can now be picked out by missile fire.
Also, they have a very short range (15"?) and are move or fire.
They simply are not that powerful. In certain circumstances, against certain targets they are gold, but engineering those circumstances is bloody hard!

I guess I don't take enough missiles then as they usually kill a good chunk of models. Yes they are 15".

I tend to use them as flank guards to counter fast moving units such as Wolf riders etc which are suseptable to the Ratling teams.

I agree with the unit in buildings etc not gaining the benifit but it is the same against the Volley gun and magic missile spells!

I think where rolling the number of hits (what ever the cause) and not haveing to roll to hit then the minus modifier should be deducted from the number of hits on each dice.
