I believe Warhammer World and Adepticon both had
FW open info this weekend. I have compiled the info, mainly from
this topic on Dakka, which contains info also gathered from Warseer and BoLS - so thanks to everyone whose hard work I'm summarising
- Chaos Dwarf stuff is beautiful. Infantry, Heroes, Taurus, and some War machines done. No Centaurs or Hobgoblins yet, but the artwork floating around means they can't be far off.
- The Chaos Dwarves have kind of gone for a compromise between big hats and helmet; the hero (called a Daemonsmith I believe) wears a top hat, whilst the foot warriors (called Infernal guard) wear the newer helemts. Both are good sculpts, but the Guard did seem to me to be 'Short Chaos Warriors with beards'. Which, I suppose, is what they are.
- There was some kind of war machine thing for the
CDs. From what I remember, it was kind of a steampunkish lorry with a mortar thing instead of the big box. Interestingly, there was an Ogre loading the device, so maybe they'll feature if the Dwarves get a variant list they'll be included.
- The pictures don't do the Vermin Lord justice; it's a really nice model, and as said it isn't finished yet. It's armed with some kind of double ended Halberd; one side has the conventional blade, the other is adorned with the symbol of the Horned rat. Certainly going to be interesting to see how it turns out.
- The Toad dragon is beautiful-think giant mutated frog/lizard thing being ridden by a Nurgly Daemon prince. Very big, probably about as tall as one of the
FW greater Daemons if not taller. There's also a new Chaos sorceror coming out; nothing special, but a nice addition to Nurgly armies.
- Art is standard Forge world stuff; very detailed and glossy. Hobgoblins are in essence Greenskinned Mongols, as you'd expect, and the Bull centaurs are the bigtoothed hat wearing Mesopotanian psychopaths we've all come to know and love.
- Finally, there's more Empire stuff in the works. I recall seeing an Engineer dude of some description, and the Sons of Manaan (or whatever it was); an nautical themed upgrade pack for sworsmen in the same vein as the Nuln Ironsides.
- Had quite a long chat with Warwick, says he's moving on to the second Warhammer forge book, which will be Bretonnians Vs Khemri. Lots of medieval Crusade style charging through the desert. He also said the new realm of battle expansion piece is a bit of a trial. They'd like to do a specific board to accompany each book release (thinking temple complex/tomb entrance for the Khemri, fallen obelisks, etc), but it will depend on how popular they prove to be (so if you want more, get buying!)
- I also spoke to some of the staff who mentioned that there would be more releases toward the end of April including the empire state troop conversion kits and that the book was now looking to be ready around June / July. This will now be a stand alone volume not a series sadly with a 2nd planned but unrelated book after this of Bretonnians vs. Tomb Kings with more planned beyond this that they can't talk about yet. I'm sure there was more if anyone has any specific questions I'll try to recall more.
- That reminds me, Alan Bligh the author of the new Tamurkhan book mentioned that the Chaos Dwarves would have a special character Great Taurus in addition to the standard one and that these would now be constructs powered by bound fire demons. He also said there would a monstrous infantry incarnation of these so giant flame filled suits of animated armour!
- I talked to Mark Bedford about the Vermin Lord he said he basically sculpted it because he didn't want to use the old naff model in his Skaven army The model itself was pretty intense, it had a cool little anime-esque drawing of it and a mock up version too. The model was actually being sculpted around a skeleton, something I thought was really interesting!
- The Turmakhan book was on display, sort of, in a rough form. A lot of illustrations were laid out to look at which were phenominal as well the book itself is going to be a right juicy tomb of information. The Chaos Dwarfs will primairliy be used as a contingent to add to your Warrior's army, however they seemed pretty sure that they'll be able to be used as a stand alone list, I'm not very good a reading and remembering rules, but most of the warmachines had two pages of rules/background/stats etc some of this stuff is going to be complicated to use. The Warsmiths also had a huge swathe of original rules and exciting nuggets, so get excited people!
- On a final note, the Taurus had his nadgers all in place just like the demi-gryph
- (the vermin lord) It wasn't huge, the model itself was on a plynth which he plans to fill with a swarm of rats But I'd say it's on par in terms of size with a Minotaur, but he is extremerly dynamic to look at.
- On another note, there was a dragon which I'd seen before on here, which is soon to be released, but one of the sculptors is making a female Empire sorceress to ride it before its release - he was sculpting something else in front of my eyes too.
