chaos knights

Postby Freddie the fist » Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:26 pm

Hey guys. I hope this is in the right section. Ive decided to try my hand at warhammer fantasy as i fancied taking a break from getting my arse kick at 40k. Im putting together a warriors of chaos army and am having trouble ranking up my knights. Ive managed to make the horses fit by positioning the front rank more foreward on their bases but the real trouble is getting the knights fo fit alongside each other wirh the shields on. I thought about making the movement trays slightly wider thus giving myself a little more room to work with (about a matchsticks width between each knight) but wasnt sure if this is breaking any rules. I know this will make me slightly wider and im guessing slightly more easier to charge but i really am struggling. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't be to much of a problem, its fairly easy to work out who yourin base to base contact with.

Have you thought of staggering the knights on the movement tray, one slightly forward the next slightly back and so on.

If you use the GW modular movement trays you get some wiggle room anyway.

And yay another player coming to the greener side of the GW hobby!

i hadnt thought about alternating the frint and rear ranks. Ive been so obsesed with getting the command group to fit together i hadnt given the rest much thought. Ive already had to cut the champions sword arm off and file it back at an angle so its not sticking out so much. Hopefully knowing what i now know the rest shouldnt be as much of a problem. Im really looking forward to playing but have no idea how to play. Just trying to get a few units ready and hoping ill be able to pick it up easier seeing it rather then just reading it from a book if that akes sense.

Always happy to give you a game and help you pick it up, its not all that hard esp as you already play 40k.

Try putting together tomb king skeletons or grave guard!

The annoying thing is I really liked the idea of a mounted army but I'm thinking twice about it now.

Agreed - I liked the idea of my All Mounted Empire Army but the couple of times that I have tried it failed dismally.

Jamie has had better success with his Dark Elves and Orc Boarboyz I think.

Did see an 'All Mounted Chaos Army' at a campaign weekend, but he was taking 30ish strong Marauder Horsemen with the Mark of Khorne.

The key to cavalry in 8th is big units, as Phil said my units of 16 cold one knights have done well (have yet to properly try the 30 boar boyz) but they need support from the foot sloggers.

Having said that I think for chaos knights the ideal number for a unit is 5-7 in one rank, any more and the cost becomes huge and as they have at least 2 attacks having a second rank is a bit of a waste.

I believe an all mounted chaos force is do-able tho, 2 units of knights as above, big units of marauder horsemen as your core backed up with chariots. Giants and shaggoths would work as well as they are fast enough to keep up with the army as are trolls and ogres. A chaos lord mounted on a dragon wouldn't go amiss either!
