Magic: Lore of Life: Throne of Vines (dispelled): Flesh to S

Postby mortiferum » Fri Jul 23, 2010 10:43 am

During my Magic Phase I successfully cast from the Lore of Life the following spells in order:

1. Throne of Vines (remains in play)
2. Flesh to Stone (augment, +4 Toughness due to Throne of Vines)

None of these spells have been dispelled by my opponent during my magic phase.

Then…

During my opponents magic phase, they use dice from their power pool to successfully dispel the remains in play spell (Throne of Vines) (page 36)

Question…

Does my unit still retain +4 Toughness or is it reduced back to +2 Toughness or something else?

Tricky one - I can see both arguements for this one.

A) Dispelling 'Throne of Vines' make 'Flesh to Stone' revert to its standard spell description, so +2 Toughness.

B) By casting 'Throne of Vines' it replaces the description of 'Flesh to Stone' to be +4 Toughness, to remove this bonus, you need to dispel 'Flesh to Stone' not 'Throne of Vines'

This does need a FAQ, but can see GW saying that the Players who's turn it is decides.....

Personally I'd go with B, as you did manage to get the combo off - forces the opponent to have to dispel the cause not the augmentor.

Going to have to have a good look at Lore of Life - some very good spells there.

I see both sides aswell, we played it as scenario A at the time (as you described) but upon further reading I'm tending towards your scenario B description.

I would go with A. Throne of Vines is gone but Flesh of Stone is still in affect so you would be +2 toughness. Throne of Vines can't replace the description of Flesh of Stone if its not there!
