Hero of the Day

Hero of the Day

Postby Spack » Sat Oct 05, 2013 6:37 pm

After a 5 hour stint playing WoT today I managed to complete "Hero of the Day" (inflict at least 50,000 damage within 24 hours) using mostly tier 7 tanks, and a couple of tier 5s. Took about 40 games, but glad I managed to get the extra 250,000 credits to help towards my next purchase. Also got both the current XP coefficient missions 32 times each :)

Anyone else managed to completed this mission?

Roughly 5 hours playing, 46 battles fought, last was with my Tiger II:

This is definitely the definition of a grind!

But for 250,000 credits! Well worth it!

Nicely done. It is a grind, but as you say the 250k credits are worth it. I'm liking these missions - I've raked in around 500k of credits across the ones in the past couple of weeks, getting my next tier 8 is looking far more likely than it used to as I'm actually making credits after almost every session of gaming; even without mission completions on Friday I earned just over 100k, which is far more than I've ever done in a day before.

The next problem will be deciding which tier 8 to get - Tiger II (which I've had before, is fully unlocked, and I'd probably want to get the E-75 back instead), Panther II (the Panther is a great mobile sniper and I've had it for ages, but I tend to prefer heavies and TDs), Jagdpanther II (love the JP, it's my longest serving tank and all my crew have 3 skills and are well on the way to a 4th), Ferdinand, GW Tiger P (the GW Panther is great, and apart from the Hummel has been the only arty I've had fun with), VK4502A (still need around 20k xp to unlock it, so I'll be grinding the Tiger P for a while longer), or T32 (need about 20k xp to unlock it, so again will be grinding the T29 for a while). If I get a tier 8 in the short term I'm going to have to sell a tier 7 to make up the credits to get a tier 8, which makes it even harder as all the tier 7s I have now I really enjoy playing. Maybe I should just keep grinding for a few more months to make up another 1m. Gah, why is life full of hard decisions? :P

I currently have only 5 Tier 8's.
I have the M26 Pershing, T34, Tiger II, Ferdinand and IS-3. I just picked up the T43 and am very close to the T44 which will give me a 6th Tier 8. Working up that line to the T62A!

And I just started playing with the VK 30.01P to work up that line to the Maus!

Just takes time and patience!

How do you find the Ferdinand? I've read that it's better than the JP2 for taking fire due to better armour, the only advantage to the JP2 is mobility.

Tier 8s I have or have played:
IS-3 - Win tank. Get this if you don't have it already.
KV-4 - Blah. Not worth it, especially with gold shells readily available these days.
T-44 - s'alright. I have a Type 5 though, which is basically better in almost every single way.
ISU-152 - most fun TD, regularly got in excess of 5k damage with it. BL-10 is one of the best guns in the game.
Tiger II - Win tank. Can't understand why you sold yours.
VK4502A - decent fun, lacks pen but it usable. Sold mine as I generally played my tiger II more and enjoyed it more.
Panther II - great fun. Mobility and armour that can sometimes work mixed with the 88L71 makes for a very fun combo.
Ferdi - decent to start, epic once you get the 128. Armour can be useful, but too many people know the weakspots and gold ammo negates the rest lots of the time. I reckon JPII is probably the better tank just because the mobility is so useful.
Pershing - my fave tier 8 medium. mobile, accurate, excellent hull down. You will want this.
T32 - Its a T29 with better hull armour, better mobility, better turret armour - it can bounce most things even on the side of its turret (once upgraded at least)! Painful stock turret though. Get this.
AMX13 90 - fun fun fun fun fun. Autoloader 90mm in a very small package. I'm sure you've seen this destroy many many things.
AMX50 100 - Also very fun, you have the best AP pen at tier 8 (excluding TDs), incredible burst damage and great mobility. No armour, and reloading the clip is loooong, but still very fun.
Centurion MkI - Haven't played this too much, but a hull down beast. Great pen, decent RoF, shame about the alpha. Good turret front, but very weak hull and sides. Mobile sniper basically.

That pretty much summarises my thoughts on the non premium tier 8s I own or have owned.

I just recently got my T32 which I am finding to be a blast to play. My T34 is also fun just for its massive alpha damage, but you have got to stay hull down in it.too many people in game have no clue how to actually play theUS heavy line and don't understand that they really should play as support heavys in the backfield as snipers. I do my best in matches that allow me that freedom instead of leading the push where I get to die first.

I assume most of the guys here areon the UK serves, but tw, are you playing on the US or UK servers? If you are on the US servers we totally should try platooning up together.

And as for the missions, last month was infinitely better. I routinely made 500k In credits each day just grinding for the 15 wins. So much fun. I have not done the 50k damage yet. Too bad since the T32 cost so much. Oh well.

Didn't win much with it, sold it to get the E-75 once I'd unlocked it. Ended up selling the E-75 as it was underpowered compared to other tier 9s, but apparently it's been tweaked in the past couple of versions and is useable again.
