Looking a bit grey for this time of year ...

Looking a bit grey for this time of year ...

Postby Spack » Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:20 am

My garage has gone all germanic this week, finally decided to sell the T-34 as I wasn't having fun with it, had unlocked the T-34-85 but was going to take ages to save up the credits to pay for it. Ended up buying some of the older tanks I'd played on my way up that I'd not played particularly well with; PzII (it's a rapid-firing, rarely-hitting, exploding piece of junk, but is fun from time to time, and I needed a T2 to play with Skiddyb and my son), Wespe (I never did get on well with arty, but this morning managed to kill 6 tanks and pull Reaper, Top Gun, and Mastery Badge Class I in a single game :D), and Hetzer (a tortoise with a gun, it's low profile is great).

Still loving the Jagdpanther, not sure whether to keep the crew skill training on or start building XP towards the Jagdpanther II, not sure if I want to upgrade it yet. The Tiger II is a lot more fun now I've had it a while, it was a grind at first and even though I've unlocked both 105mm guns the shells are far too pricey, and I tend to pen more with the 88mm anyway. Little Leichtraktor is a keeper for playing T1 games with the kids, and with Skiddyb when his PzIII Ausf is a smoking wreck on the field.

So far with the new patch only seen Seaport 3 times, and Highway and Serene Coast once each ...

Still slowly crawling up towards the 900 mark for "average", some of those high battle count low rating tanks are pulling me down, need to scrape together enough credits to pick up a StugIII and PzIII/IV as those are the ones that will have the most effect.

I've not even seen highway or Seaport yet! Having fun with my IS3 but frustrated with the T44, just unlocked the 122mm gun so hopefully will get better now. Love my T50-2, was a hell of a grind to get it though!

T-44 - you want the top 100mm, just fires too slowly otherwise to brawl and circle as it should.

I'm currently grinding on the T29, AMX M4, T-54 (I want that T-62A), Tiger P (for the ferdi), KV-4, and a couple of smaller things.

I think you left going down the Soviet mediums a little too late, Dan, now that the T-34-85 and T-43 no longer have access to the D-10-T gun.

I agree that the 105 L/52 isn't worth it, but the L/68 definitely is over the 88 L/71. Whilst the shells are between four and five times the cost, the noticeable pen increase, similar accuracy and greater damage means that you make more money with your hits, and you are more likely to make that money. Admittedly premium makes a big difference too, and is the only way I can make a profit in my tier nine and ten tanks, but overall its good fun.

Shame that 8.0 is the next version, and won;t have the British tree in, although it will have the physics and the second Soviet TD line...

Despite the L/68 having a higher avg pen and damage, the slower rate of fire meant I was actually doing less damage overall. I've already got a rammer to speed up reloading, but both 105's are so slow it's painful. On a free account I was losing money every game. I might go back to the L/68 when I've got plenty of spare credits, but for now I'll stick to the 88.

With the T-34 I just wanted to try out a medium, but I found myself being bottom of the tier list in about 90% of games and I don't like scouting much. Catching fire half of the games I played wasn't much fun.

Oh joy, more Soviets tanks, poor Soviet players with their restricted tree lines ... :P

And as to Warplanes, no RAF in the initial release! WTF?!? Going to end playing Germany again for a while, hoping the Mosquito makes it into the RAF heavy fighter/fighter bomber line as that's been my favourite WW2 plane since I was little.

just so you know - the latest patch has also made a massive change to the matchmaker - tier five and six tanks are much more enjoyable to play now.

If you want to do a tiger 2 platoon sometime, Dan, drop me a message. If you have voice comms of some sort, even better - I'm normally on a mumble server I can direct you to.

Yeah, I'll be up for that. Haven't got voice comms, but might be able to sort something out - I've got a webcam kicking around in a cupboard I could plug in :)
