Signature Generator - Development Q&A

Quick one, Dan. It's sort of related. Is there an issue now with getting stats from WG? None of the stats sites, like Noobmeter and WoT News, don't update regularly. WoT News regularly says that it can't connect to the server.

Picking up stats ok at the moment. There are periods when WG's system doesn't respond very quickly, but to counter that I keep copies of the existing data if it's available and use that in lieu of getting fresh data, trying again at the next check.

Your own data was last updated by WG at 1:44 am on 26th Dec according to the file I have cached right now, which was last updated at 1:39 am this morning. I've just forced a refresh and it now shows as updated by WG at 10:25 am this morning - so either you've played this morning up to just before 10:25am, or WG has recalculated your global rankings at about that time. BTW: nice recent battles efficiency - you're in the "Very Good" for WN7 range for your last 1000 battles :)

It's possible that WoT News and Noobmeter have issues requesting data due to the much higher number of users using their system, and so may be running into request rate limits that WG have implemented to reduce the impact of single servers requesting large amounts of data frequently, or possibly just a side effect of the WG servers falling over due to the sheer number of requests they have to deal with. The same API servers are used for the WoT Assistant apps on Android and iOS too.

Thanks. Helps that I've statpadded a bit with the Marder 38t and been playing with a lot of high alpha tanks like the ISU152 and T30 but also I have been getting a lot better. A prime example is my WR in the T54, when I unlocked the T62A I sold it and moved the crew in to that. My global WR in it was 45%. I rebought it when it was on offer and have been grinding the Obj 140 with it and have got a 55% WR in it in my second run in it to give me a global WR of 49%. To be fair I have had a WN7 of ~1400 for about the last 4 or 5 months but as you know the closer I get my global WN7 to my 60 day stat the less dramatic increase I get in my global.

Reverted part of the caching offload to CoralCDN for requests from the World of Tanks forum IPs, as I found that they refused to allow the small signature image even though it was within the size restrictions. I can only assume that the signature size checks used on their forum aren't able to deal with HTTP redirections properly and default to rejecting the image. This may affect other forums that implement signature size checks, so if anyone notices this issue on other forums let me know and I'll looking at adding workarounds for each specific one. Failing that the remote caching may need to be disabled.

API requests had to be changed as WG decided that clan_id will no longer be included in the player info. What started as a single API call in the 1.x version is now three calls - player info, player vehicles, and player clan data has to be pulled independently. :(

Last week also saw the CoralCDN proxy handling disabled - often images would not appear as the proxy would time out far too quickly. Carefully monitoring data usage but it's stabilised at around 600MB per day, so should result in less than 20GB per month for the time being.

While 8.11 has now been released, the API hasn't been updated to include the changes to the achievements (new medals and Sniper moved to "special"). Hopefully it won't be long before they've been added in.

At 600MB per day of usage, wont you hit 2GB in like 3.5 days? 600 + 600 + 600 + 600 = 2400MB = 2.4GB ish...

WN8 has been added as an option for efficiency rating display.

You can either use the interface to create a new image URL, or you can simply adjust the 7th value in the last string of numbers to a 2 (0 = XVM, 1 = WN7, 2 = WN8), as shown in red below:

Tweaked it a little more, now the Action medal sort can be set (gold members only, Action is the name given to the medals that can no longer be earned such as Sniper and Boelters Medal), and there's a 468x100 size which is a little wider than the small version and is the max size allowed on the WoT forums.

EDIT: another tweak, this time to add a small icon size so when using the 400x100 or 468x100 it's possible to squeeze on more stats when tanks and medals are enabled. This option is the Very Small tank icon size.

WG have added per tanks stats and achievements, a flag to show if the tank is in the player's garage (requires the tank to be used at least once though), and the new Personal Rating. These will be incorporated into the signature generator and stats pages in the next few days, and will allow for per-tank WN8 ratings. According to the WG development forums there are some discrepancies between the summary tank data and the details, but this should get fixed very soon.

This is good news.

Although I swear my WN8 overall and even per tank is being drivin into the dirt due to Tier10 play.

I had to take a break from WOT for a bit.

It's a game. It's supposed to be fun to play. When I find myself yelling at the noobs and idiots (though actually just yelling at the monitor! :) ) then it's time to take a break.

I haven't played for a few weeks - got dragged back into SW:ToR and have levelled up from 14 to 33 over the past few weeks. Will try to get some games in this week though, need to get some test data for adding these new options.

Stats page has added per tank WN8 ratings as a test. The value displayed is what is know as the "50% WN8" rating, in that it assumes a 50% win rate for the vehicle rather than the actual win rate. This is to prevent ridiculously high ratings due to low numbers of battles with a vehicle. I may look at tweaking this so that the "actual" WN8 is displayed for tanks with a high number of battles, but for now as it's undergoing testing I'll stick to the 50% WR version. This rating is only displayed on the "All Vehicles" table at the moment as I will need to build up differential files to be able to calculate it for recent battles.

I've also added a star next to tanks that are marked as "in_garage" in the data, which should be the ones currently in a player's garage.
