genes seeds

Postby niteterror » Tue Sep 14, 2010 6:14 pm

ok this is a fluffy question :) i understand there where 20 primarchs each with a legion of marines that were made using
geneseeds. i understand the geneseeds (kind of  )

but do deamon hunters/witch hunters/and alien hunters come from a gene seed?
if not were did they come from?
and last of all if so does that mean they have a primach of a sort?

Witch Hunters: Sisters of Battle. The Sisters of Battle do not have a Primarch, and are not engineered super humans. They are instead regular women of extreme faith, a Faith so strong in the Emperor that his power reaches from the eternal throne and bestow gifts of strength to the Sisters.

Alien Hunters: The Death Watch. The Death watch are an elite group of Marines drafted from the very best of all existing legions. The Death Watch do not engineer their troops themselves, they simply watch the other legions and invite the very best to help their crusade against the Xenos scum of the galaxy.

Deamon Hunters: Grey Knights. The Grey Knights have no Primarch. They are genetically created from a specifically engineered gene-seed. No one truly knows the origin of this gene-seed, but legend says it may be from the Emperor himself. This may explain the reasoning for the entire chapter being psykers of some sort.

If you really want more details, I would recommend picking up their individual codex's for fluff as well as the Index Astartes books(I believe number 2 had the Death Watch and Grey Knights)

One of the horus heresys had everyone thinking grey knights..
(from memory) one of the lunar wolves decided not to be a bad guy (when they became the black legion lot).. and he started smacking (now) chaos upside its head..He was taken by the sisters and interrogated a lot..one of his squad members had a cut that made him into something big and bad (not like greater demon..but similar bad assness)..which kicked the crap out of a few space marines and a buttload of sisters..
Garro takes it on, pushes it out an air lock and then (without his helmet- protected by emprah!!), he kicks the crap out of the new demon (kind of prince thing) .. someone pulls him to one side and says they have a mission for him.(every reader goes..oh... grey knights, because the subplot of those bits of the story are to do with is he god emprah or not, do you have faith or do you just soldier because it is right.)

They say they are carrying on the garro plot (beyond a dreadnought sitting on him and other stuff).. but the last chunks of what happens to him will be audio tape only early next year I believe.

(expect ljundhammer to shout a lot at most of what I just said :D

Yeah KMB. I know the books you are referring to. I actually think that may be it also. I was basing my response though on the more official info out(Index Astartes 1, 2, 3). I think the HH series may be going in a direction that will clear up that legend has it info though.

As for Garro and Death Watch, that is a possibility(as it hasn't been made clear yet), however I do not find it likely to be Death Watch as the Death Watch is Anti-Xenos, not Anti-Chaos. It is clear in the novels with Garro he is fighting Chaos. Also You are correct that Garro is not a psyker, which lends credence to those arguing against Garro being the first(or one of the first) Grey Knights. However I think it still possible that in the beginning the selection could have included non-psychers if they also showed the other requirements; such as a pure heart, Exception faith, etc...

As for the Gene-seed, again, little is known other than is is a special engineered gene-seed. This is one of the reasons for the legend being that the seed was originally from the Emperor himself.

Yeah pretty much what People said above

Witch Hunter - Sisters of battle = well trained Power armored women - no geneticaly augmented superhumans among their ranks!

Death Watch - Think of them as being the SAS of the Space Marines - like the SAS Recruit from all of the Regiments of the Army and the Royal Marines etc the Death Watch members are Marines from all of the Chapters* who spend a period of time with the Death Watch before returning to their parent chapter. The diverse talents supposedly allow them to better react to unusual and new Xenos threats as Identified by the Inquisition.

It is considered an honour to have served in the Death Watch and former members after returning to their chapter are allowed to retain the Death watch shoulder pad.

Grey Knights - Only the Emperor Knows - anything else is pretty much conjecture at this point

With regards to Garro - I was thinking that he and his colleagues might have formed the Inquisition - only because of what the Emperors spokesman (who has the forge world tank named after him????) says to him at the end of the Novel.

Correct. I missed that reference from KMB, otherwise I would have addressed that earlier as well.

No problem. We are allowed one mistake a year. Just be careful though or we will have to remove your 'Lore Master' title. ;)

Only if we aren't allowed. But since we are, I haven't and therefore still have one I can make. ;) Although, If I am wrong, I did use it, but then again, it wouldn't matter cause we don't get one.. ah sheesh. I give up. It hurts my head thinking about that circular logic.
