Ork Basics

Postby Socaddict » Mon Jun 05, 2006 9:15 pm

Following the debate Megabash and I had in the channel earlier, this is the older rendition of orky fluff:

Orks were created as a warrior and heavy labour race by the brainboyz, gretchen as a slave race, both little more than mindless animals. The brain boyz did this as they were too weak to perform these themselves. One of the biggest jobs of the orks was this: They would cultivateand harvest a special fungus that kept the brainboyz "smart". However, one day, several orks tried the fungus for some reason, and just sat around thinking for ages rather than bringing the fungus to the brainboyz. The brainboyz began to deteoriate in intelligence, as more and more orks tried the "smartbrew".

Realising that their downfall was approaching, the smartboyz decided to save their race as a whole as best they could. They genetically engineered the natural aptitude for various areas of mechanics, biology, etc into the orks DNA. The brainboyz became almost animal like in their behaviour, and became the snotlings we know today.

Thats kinda the gist of it, although I'm sure I've left out some specifics.

Unfortunately I haven't got a copy of Freebooterz and my Rogue trader isn't to hand, however the reference to the "fungul brew", does ring a bell in my clouded memory.
I'll have to dig about and see the earliest reference I have available.
Or, you could get Spack to answer the question for you.. He's bound to have ALL the books :P

The best description for brain boyz is in Whaaargh the orkz,,

One of the biggest jobs of the orks was this: They would cultivateand harvest a special fungus that kept the brainboyz "smart". However, one day, several orks tried the fungus for some reason, and just sat around thinking for ages rather than bringing the fungus to the brainboyz. The brainboyz began to deteoriate in intelligence, as more and more orks tried the "smartbrew".

I don't remember reading anything like that.. i''ll check the bookz later tho

Not quite all, but I did flick through RT and there's no details about the origins of the Orks. The Slann section just mentions that they may have created most of the races found in the galaxy, but does not list them.

The only mention I can find of the Orks possibly being created by the Old Ones is in the Necron codex, on page 26, where it says they created the "hardy, green-skinned Krork" as a race to defend their strongholds. Notice it's Krork, not Ork - possibly a different race, but GW doing their bit to get the kids thinking and putting two and two together to get five, or maybe four.

I'll dig out more as I dig out my old RT era stuff.

Of course, you do lack Waaargh the orks, Spack. Then again, so do I. If anyone sees a copy up for sale somewhere, let me know.
