Mission 3 - pre batrep question for you all

Postby mattjgilbert » Sun Dec 14, 2008 7:12 pm

So... we should be playing the next mission on Monday night but there could be an issue.

Since the last mission (has it really been that long???) we have a new SM codex and a new FW book with a new Renegade list in it. Both of us intend to use the new lists for the games here on in. I don't have an issue with my marines but WLH choose to give a veteran skill to his Alpha Legion unit... which he cannot take in the new list!

I'm not sure what he wants to do about this - I'll ask him tomorrow (or point him at this thread). So before we play tomorrow night... any suggestions on what we can do. Should the unit simply be a bonus addition to the new list, chosen as per the old one (seems reasonable) or should he be allowed to transfer the skill to a unit from the new list... or something else?

Thoughts?

The rulebook does state that the play of the game is more important than the actual rules. Makes for a lot of confusion in a number of rules discussions.
IMO, as long as his opponent (you) is okay with him using that unit, there would be nothing to prevent it. These are the game variances that can be discussed and agreed to at the beginning of any game.

Where have you been tw?
I was thinking of sending you a personal massage, errr, I didn't type that did I, no, don't be daft, A PERSONAL MESSAGE, that's it.

Hmmm, what was this about?
Oh yeah do what you want!
Particularly as it's part of a campaign.

On another matter, the bombardment costs in the first list are determined by the off-table weapon type.

In the newer list, they are "x" points + the off-table weapon type.
Is this a typo, or do you have to pay + "X" as they are no-longer 0-1???

Oh I know we can do what we want and I'd like whatever the decision is to be because it makes the ongoing narrative work. The question was really around what would work best. Let's see what Mr Havoc wants to do...

Been under a bit of stress lately, so a personal massage would be great right about now! When does she arrive? 8)

Adding a veteran unit works well with an ongoing narrative, they could be survivors of a previous battle enlisted due to their intimate knowledge of the enemies tactics and capabilities. My humble thoughts on this. :)

Looking forward to the batrep!

Hmmmm Hadn't even thought about this

(What would Jervis do...what would he do......???)

I say we press on regardless - the Alpha Legion having drawn both the Ultra Marines and a Khornite warband to this world consider their work done and simply....disappear.

To hell with it I only had a single squad upgraded anyway.

I think we stick with them if not for this battle then certainly they should have made a reappearance by Mission 5 (the final one) to see the carnage they have created.

Her name is Belinda Buzz 8O 8O ms!!!
46 eee (that must be a professional qualification, I think).

Apparently her speciality is "baby oiled nurse!"
I would post a pic, but it's a bit racy, it says on it "Belinda Buzz 8O 8O m's
sponsored by Johnsons' a family company."

Grrr... WLH cried off last night claiming extreme tiredness. I think he's just scared. We have one more Monday night left to try and get the game done before it will not happen until next year.

Everyone else turned up late and Thaiss and BDA had said they would do a quick 500 point game but then when I suggested they team up and play my 1000 point force which was sitting there waiting for a game. BDA then turned up with nothing but Jaffa cakes and so Thaiss played me with a hastily cut down marine force against his orks. Game took about 30 minutes and while my libby and his squad died, the marines sent the greenskins packing.
