Played our first game of apoc last week. Was really excited, made all my new models; 2x Aquila strongpoints, firestorm redoubt, vengeance emplacements... Got the martyrs wall out also, along with 2bastions and the fortress of redemption. 2 k of fortifications.
We only managed to get three people out to play.. We went for three tables to make 6x12 playing area. I spent two days flocking them and bringing other terrain pieces up to scratch to match.
We hadn't played apoc for some time so our past experience had been forgotten. 10,000 points each side we decided on.
I added my war hound Titan, 3x bane blades, and faced off against three stompas, a brass scorpion and some plague bane blade I forget the name of....
First turn I steal the initiative. Ok let's fire all them D weapons and blow some shit up!!!!!
NO, sorry, you can't. I have a strategic asset for orks that says you can't fire any emplaced weapons. Damn! I've been outsmarted by some dastardly orks.
Nevermind ill get them next turn... But before that I need to see what the enemy do...
Oppositions first turn sees about 5x units of chaos termies
DS into my lines... Wow, that's brave, let's see how many hit my men and fortifications when they scatter... Damn!!!! No scatter. Foiled again by another strategic asset. The termies all have combi meltas, there's a surprise, and proceed to shoot at the strongpoints and bane blade. At the end of the shooting I have lost one bane blade... Not too bad... And no strongpoint dies, however the termies score a result that kills the emplaced weapons off both of them.... Double damn!!!!
So all that prepping and I don't even get to fire my big guns. Lol
Turn one over its 1pm ( we started at 9am). Turn two after dinner. We play that and then its 4.30 pm and call it a day. Mmmmm. 2 turns each played. Anyone spot the mistake we made?
Guys, start small and build up. 10k sounds cool, but its not. Our first outing left us feel rather unsatisfied and deflated. But we will be trying it again soon.
