The UK 40K GT is... SOLD OUT!

Postby skcuzzlebumm » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:18 am

What is this all about?

Unhappy with the changes to the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament?

Wish someone would organise an event like the old GW GT’s?

With the change in format to the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament we feel that there is now a demand for a player driven Grand Tournament, where the focus is on a players gaming prowess.

Announcing the UK 40K GT. This is an event organised by a number of well known tournament players and members of the UK gaming club community with the aim of providing a non comp, no holds barred event for gamers.

We hope the UK 40K GT will expand over the years to become one of the UK's premier 40k tournaments. However as with all things we must start small and realistic, therefore for its first year we are holding a single tournament at Maelstrom Games Eye of the Storm venue on the 26th and 27th March 2011. We envisage this event will prove so successful that we are able to hold regional heats across the UK with a percentage of top finishers qualifying for a Grand Final to decide the UK’s ultimate 40K champion. A number of potential venues across the UK have already pledged their future support and we need your help to make this happen! Yes, this year will be only a single event, but the more popular it proves the greater our scope becomes to expand for the future. Therefore this really is going to be a truly player driven event as its increased size, scope and success will depend upon the support you give.

As we have said this year’s inaugural tournament is being held at Maelstrom Games Eye of the Storm venue on the 26th and 27th March 2011. Tickets will be £35 which includes a hot/cold buffet lunch on both days, and an evening meal on Saturday. Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis and can be purchased on www.uk40kgt.co.uk from Monday 4th October 2010 at 6pm GMT.

The event will consist of 6 games at 1750pts over 2 days with no composition restrictions beyond you may only use current and official Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 Codices (so no Forge World) with the standard force organisation chart. The first round will be a random draw, with subsequent rounds being drawn on a swiss system because if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best!

For full details of the event please download the RULES PACK

There will be a minimum painting standard to be adhered to, similar to that employed over the years at the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournaments. This is because all of us prefer to face painted armies across professional built boards and terrain. There will be awards for the best painted army at the event, but there will be no soft scores to speak of. Your final ranking at the event will be based solely upon your gaming prowess. We understand that this may not appeal to everyone, but we feel there are plenty of excellent events across the UK with a stronger hobby over gaming focus; such as Games Workshops own Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament. That is not to say however, that we will tolerate poor sportsmanship (WAACer's) at our events, as we believe that it is entirely possible to play both tough and fair. Winning and having fun are not mutually exclusive and we hope to prove that with this event.

We have also set up a small forum; http://independentukgrandtournaments.freeforums.org. This is intended to be a venue for people to discuss the particulars of the UK 40K GT, whether that be submitting a rules question for the FAQ team, discussing travel arrangements, army lists, or even just laying down some smack talk.

Hopefully this has whetted your appetite for the event and you are already ear marking you calendars for the 26th and 27th March 2011. As we have mentioned above tickets can be purchased direct from www.uk40kgt.co.uk on Monday 4th October 2010 at 6pm GMT.

Until then however, "Stay Frosty"

Regards

The UK 40K GT Committee: Bunny, Kong, Lash Machine, Lord Flashheart, Mattrs, MJayC50, Nature Boy and Skcuzzlebumm

so 1750, 6 games.
House rules yet to be published.. will you be using the inat or the old throne of skulls as a base?
LIsted hunters codexs, you don't have that extra exception clause allowing those with the books to use allies is that deliberate..given that GW said they'd fubar'd that.
I'm not great with names.. a sizeable portion of GT committee are flame on guys right?

I'm moderately interested and the price is good.

Hey guys, glad to see there is some interest amongst the AoS crew.

To answer some questions:

FAQ's; in the 1st instance (as per the rules pack) we are using the GW FAQ's so as not to confuse people. For issues that those documents do not address we are going to issue a House Rules/FAQ. The core of this doucment will be the old GW GT House Rules, 2 of the committee memebers where part of the Dirty Dozen who wrote those for the GT. Then for everything that is still not covered we are inviting people to submit their questions to the UK 40K GT forum, as per my original post. We have not published the House Rules yet as we already have recieved a mass of emails over the past few months from people who were aware of us working on this project. We intend to publish the House Rules document on/or before the ticket relase date. It just takes time for us all to debate and agree what is the right answer to questions. It is important to note that it will be a living document and we will regulary update it as and when required, however the final publication will be made and set well in advance of the UK 40k GT weekend.

Allies: That is correct, as GW have changed the 2 Inq books to reflect that allies are no longer allowed we have again decided for clarity to go with these rules and not ones that are no-longer in print/available to purchase from GW. We understand this might screw with some peoples armies, it certainly does with my Genestealer Cult themed Witch Hunters, but again we are trying to keep things current and not use anything that is not readily available to everyone and anyone. Also its worth keeping in mind that the new Grey Knight/Daemon Hunter book will not allow allies.

As for the final question regarding who makes up the UK 40k GT Committe; I am the only one who is a member of Flame On. Several of its members post from time to time on our forums, but they are all from their own clubs and have thier own distinct affiliations. This was something that was felt to be very important when the committee was elected and came together. For the record the clubs represented are: Flame On (me), 1st Company Vets (Mattrs and Lord Flash Heart), Brighton Warlords (Bunny), Tolworth 1st Founding (Lash Machine), Oxford Gaming Club (MJayC50), Bingo Wings (Kong), and Dudley Dark Lords (Nature Boy). All however are people who have been active on both the GW GT and Indi Tournament circuit, as both players, refs and organisers, for many years. Also several are leading members of their clubs, a number of which are GCN affiliated. This has given us a broad base of opinions and ideas with which to work with.

Hope that answers all your questions but please do not hesitate to ask more if there are any.

Otherwise I look forward to seeing some of you at the UK 40K GT in March

Neil.

The maximum number of players we can fit into Maelstrom games in 120 and we are confident that we can sell all these tickets. We have posted on pretty much every UK based GW forum/club forum we could find and the response on the whole has been very positive.

Thanks for the responses :D (I still don't recognise those names..I must frequent the wrong boards+I never did fancy subscribing to vets night at whw . )
I read some blurb from some of the first planning bits for your event. (prior to the final plan,I'm going out of my way to be confused :D )

It will only accommodate 120,given its natural awesomeness you will eventually attract more than this, will you be creating official regional heats/tourney circuit (The Unseen Lurkers were talking about that) or a more centrally based 3 heats prior to final (GW model all set in Mansfield). Is any future thing planned or is the committee happy to just keep it on a first come first served for a single yearly event?
(under the surface this might appear a really bitchy question, but its more one of whether I make the grade. With only one event are you really pitching it for prior GT finalists to exclusively have ninja high tier battles.About all I managed at heats was the pub quiz and fastest (non conceding) victory  )

It is really nice that you guys got off your butts and actually did it, I know 2 websites who couldn't get anything further than paper.

(I'm surprised King/DA company master hasn't chipped in an interest..flames of war must have totally hypnotised him)

To answer your question I'm just going to be lazy and quote myself from the 1st post... ;)

We will be running a pub quiz and various other silly games for people to partake in during both evenings; Maelstrom has its own bar which is open till 2am on Friday and Saturday Night :D Obviously you all know what a pub quiz is, King can fill you in on some of the other silly games I have been known to organise on a GT saturday night. So whilst the tournament will be an all out game-fest, fought in the best of spirits of course (bad sportsmanship WILL NOT be tolerated and I used to be a bouncer in Manchester for 5 years....), we will make sure there is plenty of opportunity for socialising over the weekend. As lets face it that sometimes is the best part of a tournament.

It is really nice that you guys got off your butts and actually did it, I know 2 websites who couldn't get anything further than paper.

This has actually come out probably from the kind of discussions you are talking about, its just been done behind closed doors as to keep things focused.

I'm surprised King/DA company master hasn't chipped in an interest..

He actually emailed me the other day asking to have a chat about something relating the the event. What it is I have no idea.

So as you all should be aware tickets go on sale at 6pm GMT this evening (that is Monday 4th October).

What you all want to know is where...... the new UK 40K GT website is now up and can be found at www.uk40kgt.co.uk

For now this site is pretty spartan but it will expand into a one stop shop for all the rules packs, house rules (coming soon - we are still sorting through lots of quesions), news, results and updates for the UK 40K GT. For now though what you are all interested in is how to buy tickets, the webstore will be 'turned on' at 6pm this evening on the UK 40K GT site. So bookmark the webpage and set your alarms ladies and gentlemen. N.B. if you are buying multiple tickets then please remember to email the Uk 40K GT committee details of all the players (names, addresses, emails etc etc) on uk40kgt[at]gmail[dot]com

:D
