First model for my Ultramarines army...

...working on an UM 8th Co Captain conversion, using these two kits:

So back here started the 2011 1st Quarter Hobby Challenge. Unfortunately, as Stormwing needed a lot of work, including use of two-part epoxy and green stuffing, I didn't quite finish him, so I failed the challenge

Got the rest done: 2x 10 Swordmasters, 2x10 Sea Guard, 2x5 Reavers, Prince Althran on foot and on Griffon, Caladris, and 10 Horrors and the Changeling.

So assembling Dwarf King's Hold is part of my Q2 Hobby Challenge

Managed to get the Dwarfs (5 warriors, 2 shieldbreakers, mastiff* and dead dwarf objective) done tonight, as well as basing the two Bloodletters for the challenge.

The models are nicer nicer than the old GW 1-piece Dwarfs, but a few years behind the detail of the current GW range. However, I do quite like the models, plus the relative price means I definitely feel I get what I pay for.

Just finished the 12 Skeletons for the game as well. There's also a Pit of Souls (used in the game) and a Pile of Bones (you get counters for these, but if you had enough Mantic skellies, as I do with a 1k army, you could use "actual" piles), and a Skeleton Rat (used in Kings of War).



They were nice models to put together:
- mould lines have been run along the edges of fabric etc, so that basically means there aren't that many to clean up
- unlike GW skellies that attach on the spine, Mantic skellies lock over each other (about half...

Just finished the 10 Revenants (Armoured Skeletons) for the game as well. There's also a Pit of Souls (used in the game) and a Pile of Bones (you get counters for these, but if you had enough Mantic skellies, as I do with a 1k army, you could use "actual" piles), and a Skeleton Rat (used in Kings of War).



6 of the models on the sprue are sculpted Revenants, the other 4 are Skeleton Torsos with blinged up heads and armour pieces to be stuck on (which works fine IMO).

3 of the Dwarf characters from the War Counsel set (Warsmith, Berserker Lord, Army Standard Bearer)

And assembled (but didn't clean) the legs for a unit of 20 Ghouls


Previously I also assembled the Omens of Death set (Balefire Catapult and a unit of 20 Skeletons)

Got a few bits of filling and painting to do around it, and it needs some blinds for the windows, then I can get some cupboards in with a gaming board on top

The gf asked me to paint a model for her, and as this was undercoated pre-5th Ed ( ) and no longer needed for it's original purpose




Unfortunately the light isn't very good, but I need to prove it was finished tonight, so it'll have to do for now.

Little experiment in dipping on a "red shirt" model:



Method:
Spray white
Usual base technique
Brush on Quickshade Medium
Clean brush in white spirit
Pick out collar in Chainmail
Light drybrush of Bleached Bone
Light drybrush of Skull White (inc base)

Job done

(Well I need to tidy the rim and do a quick wash on the Chainmail, but yeah)

Hopefully this will develop into a speedy appearance of my Tomb Kings
