Looking good da boss. Why not enter one in the competition this month?
What!?
Must admit I've had a bad rep from the guys at my club, for years I was only interested in getting the models basically 3 colours and based (just!), I was more interested in the battle.
Since I started playing campaign weekends, Flames Of War and Malifaux; I've fallen in love with actually painting!
I think going down to 15mm and having to paint small details has actually improved my 28mm painting; just a larger surface.
The breakthrough was Malifaux, instead of having to paint up 100+ models for a force in WH40K or even more in Fantasy; Malifaux I was just concentrating on half a dozen miniatures.
I reckon I spend about 1 - 2 hours per model in total now compared to maybe 10 mins each in past. When I painted up Primarch Angron, I must of spent at least 10 hours of effort.
Getting proper Sable bushes than the tat from GW has really helped, and I think GW paints have improved, though I'm using a mixture of GW, Vallajo and other acrylics to get the colour and tone on my models.
Learning how to shade, blend and highlight my models; and learning from my son all about the colour wheel.
But overall - it's the fact that I find it a pleasure to paint (relaxing) that has kept me doing more - still have a mountain of models in boxes and trays waiting to be touched.
As to entering competitions - I'm nowhere near good enough, just happy that people appreciate what I've achieved
