Russians in MidWar

Permanent Linkby DaBoss on Mon Aug 22, 2011 12:36 pm

With my British Armoured Car Company finished except for the Typhoons for the Battlefront Euro-Tournament in September, its time to start on my next army for the Newbury Colours and Reading Warfare Tournaments.
Both these are running MidWar Tournaments and as I like the Eastern Front was a choice between Germans and Russians.
With the latest release of the KV-1e models by Zvezda, it had to be Russians, so Mixed Tankovy Batalon from the Eastern Front Book.

You have to take 3 Combat Platoons so I've gone for Red Army (Fearless Conscripts)
T-26 Tankovy Company (10) T-26S obr 1939 @205pts
Medium Tankovy Company (10) T-34 obr 1941 @605pts
Heavy Tankovy Company (6) KV-1e @620pts

This compulsory takes up 1430pts of the total 1750pts

So now some Corps Support (both of these are Fearless Trained):
Razvedki Platoon - 1 Command Rifle/MG, 6 Rifle/MG Teams and 4 captureed Sd Kfz 251 halftracks @160pts
Guards Rocket Mortar Battalion - 4 Katyushas, 1 Truck, 1 Command Rifle, 1 Observer, 1 Kommissar @150pts

Grand Total of 1740pts and 5 Platoons (tried to fit a 6th platoon in but could not without sacrificing tanks)

Thats 26 Tanks, a bit of infantry and some Artillery. I know they will be easy to hit being Conscript and have to bunch up.
But should be able to out-shoot any other Tank army - looking on the forum it looks like a lot of other people are taking Russian Guard Tankovy (so lots of T-34's).

What I love about this force is it's all Zvezda models except for the infantry and cost me £2.50 a Tank - so overall cost me a third of what it would buying Battlefront.
Once I've finished painting them, they should look AOK (it's only when you pick them up do you realise....)

Anyway some photo's

Looks good Phil but isn't it going to be vulnerable to aircraft?
Are you looking at my cheese?

Great work Phil, you shame me into picking up a paintbrush and getting the rest of my extensive forces painted. See you in September

Yep - will be an issue, unfortunately the list can only take static Anti-aircraft Guns which are immobile and 24" range, which will be left behind by my advancing Tanks or gunned down by the enemy.

I could take Il-2 Shturmovik aircraft but would really want to use them for attacking than air interception, plus at 200pts for Limited Support I'd rather take my chances with German Stukas only killing a few of my Tanks.

Only a week away now - I've just put some flock on my Sexton command teams and added the Black Strips to my Typhoons.
Just need to add Decals to the Typhoons as long as I can find them again on my painting table....

How's your painting going?
Are you taking British? Is King also coming?

Really can't wait to be there.

Pity.
Hopefully it wont be too much of an issue but i've a feeling it may well be a major headache but like you say nothing you can do about it really.

Sorry for the delayed response Phil - Busy sorting out Objectives - One day to go for us now we are going to be there tommorow night. King is bringing his American Tank company and Bane is bringing a Guards Armoured company - if he gets it finished. Im bringing a very flimsy British Rifle Company- Thin Red Line style.

So we are all going as Allies
I'm not travelling up till Saturday morning - looking forward to a lot of great games and a good old bit of socialising and war stories
