1/72 BF 109 Propeller Repair

by Spack on Sat Apr 13, 2013 2:00 pm
Some time ago my son and I built a Revell 1/72 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10 model kit. The canopy has not been glued on as I wanted him to paint it first, but it ended up sitting on a shelf for months and at some point one propeller blade has broken off and been lost. This month my son wants to paint it, so it's time to repair it as it'll look odd with only two blades instead of three. I was first going to try to use some plasticard to repair it, but that was a non-starter as the blade is very thin and has a twist to it that would be extremely to replicate in this way.

Luckily I have some Oyamru "instant mold" that I bought a few years ago, and has previously been used in other projects. This stuff is great, as it's a thermal setting plastic - when it's put in boiling water for about a minute it goes very soft, and then hardens as it cools. Once cool it holds a perfect impression of the item it has been molded around. I couldn't find any "green stuff" putty kicking...

Easy Co. Update - 30th July 2013

by Cain Tiberius on Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:30 pm
Update time.

So with the addition of some plastic US infantry (painted as Airborne) that I bought from Tadhg, a 30.cal LMG team and a 50.cal HMG team, I've basically doubled my force.

Having a better idea of the rules now, I realise the LMGs have to be part of an infantry squad. And squads have to be at least 6 men. So the previously posted 2x 5 man infantry squads and 2 man LMG team, are now a 6 man squad with 5 rifles and 1 SMG. And another 6 man squad with LMG, Loader and 4 Rifles. They can be played separate like that or combined to make a single squad.

I initially intended to do a single reinforced platoon. But I've decided to have 2 Lieutenants. So the previous Lieutenant I promoted to Captain. The 1st Sergeant I promoted to 1Lt and I painted one of the plastic figures as a 2Lt. This will allow me to field more of the back up units.

Panzerzug railcar "Kommandowagen" WIP

by Spack on Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:07 am
Got the basic hull of the Kommandowagen completed tonight. Still needs railings, buffers, and hatches, but is otherwise pretty much done.

I also did a bit more work on the Artillery/Flak railcar, adding the connecting corridor at the Flak platform end (there isn't one at the turret end, as the next railcar would be the tank carrying well wagon) and armour plates for the buffers.

And finally some pics of the new railcars on track and next to the loco and Panzertriebwagen.

Panzerzug "Geschutzwagen" WIP

by Spack on Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:44 pm
Another small update to the Panzerzug BP44 model train is the basic hull of the Geschutzwagen, which is armed with a 10.5cm turret.

This railcar is connected up to the tender, with the Kommandowagen between it and the Artillery/Flak railcar.

The next railcar in line will be the tank carrying well wagon which carries a Pz38t light tank and has a folding loading ramp, followed by a Panzerjaegerwagen which is a flat railcar with a Panzer IV turret. For the full BP44 duplicates of the railcars are added in the same order to the front of the train, plus two flat wagons which carry supplies and help protect the train should anything be in the way on the track. I'm still trying to decide where the Panzertriebwagen 51 will be placed,...
