Grey Knights Dreadknight Conversion WIP Part 3

by Spack on Sun Apr 17, 2011 4:39 pm
I just couldn't leave it alone again. This time I decided that the shoulders needed a little something, and I ended up adding some pauldrons.

Other than magnetising the weapons the Dreadknight is (at least for the moment!) complete.

1/72 BF 109 Propeller Repair

by Spack on Sat Apr 13, 2013 2:00 pm
Some time ago my son and I built a Revell 1/72 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10 model kit. The canopy has not been glued on as I wanted him to paint it first, but it ended up sitting on a shelf for months and at some point one propeller blade has broken off and been lost. This month my son wants to paint it, so it's time to repair it as it'll look odd with only two blades instead of three. I was first going to try to use some plasticard to repair it, but that was a non-starter as the blade is very thin and has a twist to it that would be extremely to replicate in this way.

Luckily I have some Oyamru "instant mold" that I bought a few years ago, and has previously been used in other projects. This stuff is great, as it's a thermal setting plastic - when it's put in boiling water for about a minute it goes very soft, and then hardens as it cools. Once cool it holds a perfect impression of the item it has been molded around. I couldn't find any "green stuff" putty kicking...

MK1 Rhino Chasis Conversion Tutorial 9th July

by Cain Tiberius on Sun Jul 10, 2011 12:46 am
Hey folks.

A couple months ago I posted pics of my MK1 Rhino/Razorback conversion, and had calls to show how I made it. Well I suck at WiP or tutorials. But I am working on another and have taken alot more pics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

First of all I have to say the way I made the Grills is different from the first time. But I was able to get them made in 1/4 of the time.

I noticed that the interior of the rear hatch to the Rhino kit has a nice Grill patern. So I used Greenstuff to make 4 positive molds of the patern. Its inportnant to try an keep the green stuff about 1mm thick. (Thicker will mean more work on the next stage as I found out)

Then I cut 4 pieces of plasticard to the shape of the grills including the surounding colars. (I first did it with paper till I got the desired size.) Then I did the same with the Green Stuff moldings...

New Plans

by Jay on Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:32 pm
9 months nearly since the last post and no pictures, hrmm. Change of plans! I started to assemble on mass and relieased several things. A) Wasn't happy with the models B) Wasn't happy with the weapons & accesroies and C) Had no concrete plan for how many and what kind of troops I wanted.
So the project took a back seat while I got on with starting from scratch. A clean slate...sort of. Since picking up the hobby back in 07 I've ploughed loads of money into nothing because I've rushed, changed my mind and then changed it again. Hell I probably have been able to afford a complete DKoK army going off what I've spent so far! That being said I've now got a ton of models that need so much repair work it's not worth the effort.

The biggest obstacle for me has being finding the right balance between W40k/Imperium and the Helghast theme, because I can't sculpt or model it has been so far simple head swaps but this never really satisfied what I had in mind. Something that always bothered me...
