Progress!...well sort of.

by Jay on Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:27 pm
Exciting news! Had a chat with some of the new custom bits websites and got a decent quote on casting custom parts! Whoop! Will solve my head issue and hopefully open the door to lots of cool ideas. The downside is I need to provide a sculpt, something I can't do, however I have a plan! I found some paper craft unfolded Helghan assault heads and hope to downscale, match 28mm and build loosely using plastic card. If that fails then will give good old green stuff (which is doomed to failure) however this is the really cool part. I used to be fairly decent at 3d Studio Max and after getting some quotes from 3d printers I think this maybe the way forward, well in a convoluted way anyways. Model in Max and/or Zbrush. Convert if need be in AutoCad, send to 3d printers, get my picture perfect master, send off and cast. The whole process will probably cost upwards of £50 but I think it'll be worth it.

On a different note I've found a good palette (thanks Matt) and will be hunting around for ...

Panzerzug loco and tender remodelled

by Spack on Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:57 am
In order to accomodate the Stanier 8F loco and tender that I'm using instead of a BR 57, the loco and tender have had to be adjusted to acommodate the additional length and different wheel positions. I've tried to keep the overall as close as possible, with the armour panel edges at midpoints between axles and the access hatches on the loco centred on the driving wheels.

At the top is the original model, below is the extended version to fit the 8F.

And here are the unfolded versions ready to print.

Finally a shot of the half train model with the extended loco:

BA Blog 22nd Sept

by Cain Tiberius on Sat Sep 22, 2012 1:40 pm
Ok, squad 10 is now finished.

2nd Co. 10th Squad (Devestator) led by Sergeant Triam.

As missile launchers seem to be a staple these days, I chose to equip all 4 heavies as missile launchers. For the same reason I chose not to magnetise. Also as I want all my Sergeants to have flags, I removed the sensor thing from the back pack. I built that a little stand to be a separate model which can also be placed next to who ever has the improved BS that round. I didn't have enough missile back packs, so the 2 I had I placed on regular bolter guys as I also felt it more realistic to imagin someone other than the heavies carrying the ammo.

BA Blog 23rd Dec 2012, 2 Vindi's, 1 Whirlwind, 1 Baal Pred

by Cain Tiberius on Sun Dec 23, 2012 11:36 pm
Howdy folks

Ok so this last couple weeks I've gone a little tank crazy. I have four new additions for your viewing pleasure.

First up are two Vindicators. The first one was an eBay rescue. I'd already striped the paint best I could before this pic was taken. Unfortunately it didn't have any tracks, fortunately I had some IG tank tracks in my bits box (no idea why) and I was able to make them fit. I also had so of the old metal Vindicator parts. Add a couple choice pieces from eBay and some plasticard, and you have a MK1 Vindi :)

Russian Mixed Tankovy visits Newbury Colours MidWar Tournament

by DaBoss on Mon Sep 12, 2011 3:31 pm
So took my MidWar Soviet Mixed Tankovy Battalon along to Newbury Colours.
The organiser turned up late leaving 24 gamers catching the breeze.
We get going by 10am and my first game was Encounter verses a British 1st Army
Infantry Company

He had
3 x Rifle Platoons (1 with attached Piat)
1 x Churchill Tanks (3 tanks)
1 x Royal Artillery (8 Guns) Battery 25pdrs
1 x Medium Artillery (8 Guns) Battery 5.5"

He deployed his Artillery and one rifle platoon, I deployed my rocket launchers and the KV-1e tanks
He spent four turns failing to range or hurt my KVs, so I decided to steam forward and roll over his artillery - managed to kill 3 medium guns (didn't know they had 32" range!!!)
Then on his 5th turn he got his Churchills which stopped my attack on the objective, but he also dropped all his artillery on them and destroyed 3 and bailed 1 - I then failed my morale and lose the platoon, meanwhile his infantry have moved to assault my rocket launchers on the other objective.
My turn 5...
