Anything Goes! - April 2014 Competition

Anything Goes! - April 2014 Competition

Postby timewizard » Fri Mar 28, 2014 8:45 pm

Marching in behind last month’s contest (see what we did there) is the April Modeling Contest. No Foolin” :D We will now cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of modeling and painting! So Spring into this contest! The winners will be Showered with laurels and praise as in the past.

Anything Goes
anything_goes_xlg.jpg

Rules are as follows (FOR THE ESSENTIALS ONLY, SCROLL DOWN TO THE RED TEXT)

Each contestant must submit a photo of an unopened box, unassembled model or unpainted model or submit a drawing or photo describing the project into the “Building Competition” thread by April the 15th. Primed only models are acceptable but completely unprimed models are preferred. Direct casts or re-casts of any copyrighted material will result in the post being deleted and the poster being disqualified for that month’s contest.

A list will be posted by one of the moderators in this post listing all eligible contestants for the month's competition. No entries will be accepted or can be changed after the 15th of April. No exceptions.

During the month, wip photos can be put into the thread, and in fact are encouraged, but may not be placed in the competition gallery.

All completed entries must be submitted by the 27th of April and must posted in the competition gallery and no entries will be accepted after midnight GMT on that date. Only one entry per person will be permitted and the entry must consist of a single image. Multiple photos on the image are allowable but if more than one photo is uploaded to the gallery by any one entrant at any time, that entrant will be disqualified.

If an entrant has not completed their project by the deadline, they may still enter an incomplete entry if desired, but it will of course be judged as such. The only requirement is to post the entry by the deadline. The members of the site have the final word after all!

Voting will be held from just after midnight April 27th until midnight GMT on April 29th. At that time voting will be closed and the winners will be announced.

Every registered member of the site may vote. The total number of votes each member may cast will depend on the number of entrants as follows;
Up to 5 entries - 1 vote per registered member
6 to 10 entries - 2 votes per registered member
More than 10 entries - 3 votes per registered member
You can change your vote(s) until the poll is closed. No poll results will be revealed (even to the moderators) until the poll has closed.

ESSENTIALS:

The correct title of this competition should probably be “Almost” Anything Goes. This is a “Painting and Modeling” contest, so your entry must of necessity be a model. Can be plastic, resin, wood, any material and can be a kit or a scratch build or a combination of the two. Can be game related or unrelated, “anything goes”. This is also a chance to finish up a semi-completed kit. Just be sure that you post a picture of your entry for consideration by the mods. If there is a problem with it, expect a PM (no need to air it in public after all! ;) ) and the mods will do their best to sort the thing out. The intention is to get as many folks as possible involved. So get busy. As usual, no entries may be submitted to this thread until April 1st. Oh, and “April Fools” entries will immediately disqualify the entrant from the event. Let’s play nice here!

Entry open until April 15th
Contest closes Midnight April 27th
ONE entry per person

We look forward to seeing your entries!

In the process of prepping this months entry :) still working out the logistics of whether it's practical to do in one month, or to split it over 2 / 3 competitions - so this post is deliberately vague, but I have already listed it as a 'todo' in my painting log :)

Just remember that you're not supposed to begin work on it until the contest starts!

So by 'prepping', I reckon you mean you are thinking through all the finer details. ;)

And it could certainly be something split over a couple of comps, as long as the other elements fulfill the requirements of the future events.

Sounds cryptic enough to get my interest piqued though! :)

Mine is a commemorative type model. I'm hoping the end result will be out of this world!

Right! Since there don't seem to be any questions about this comp, it is good to go!

Tonight after midnight feel free to begin posting your proposed entries!

As usual, if you have any questions about the entry feel free to post here or to PM either myself or Talus.

Can't wait to see what everyone is going to pull out for this month's contest.

Entry approved.

Talus was the first one to post an entry. What a surprise! ;)

I'm going a bit bigger than 15mm for this contest. Doing up something that takes me back to trading cards I collected when I was a kid. This month my "out of the world" entry will be;

Just hope I can do it justice!

I don't own anything 'wacky' or odd to paint up, so I'll throw some more skull terrain in as it won't fit any other monthly competition.
Two separate pieces, and I'll be cutting the skulls in half to have them sunk into the earth at angles.

This month is a change of time period for me in a couple of ways. I'm revisiting a model I originally painted in 95/96 that deserves a new link of paint. I'm also stepping out of my 41st millennium comfort zone and in to the realm of the old world.

This month, I'll be painting Egrimm Van Horstmann (sp) on the dragon Baudros (sp).

I was given this model just before christmas last year and I've been looking forward to getting paint on it. It'd have been done by now but I've been busy with other projects.... But seeing what others have entered I may change my mind and get my Tigershark repainted instead!

When I was a Teen a built a whole load of Star Trek models by AMT. My favourite and most hated kit was the Refit Enterprise from the first 6 movies. Loved the ship, but the pylons holding the engines just didn't hold the weight because of our crappy glue. Needless to say they always ended up looking a mess.
The models are now out of production and harder to come by. But my darling wife bought me one off eBay for our anniversary last year. I said I'd build it once we moved in our new home. Its been 2 months since we moved, so I think its time I did it.
I'm eager to see if my years of kitbashing and scratchbuilding will allow me to build it as its meant to be. And also be able to do the paint job justice.
