First FoW Games. Things to avoid/to-do

First FoW Games. Things to avoid/to-do

Postby Jay » Wed Jun 15, 2011 9:58 pm

My friend and I will be playing our first FoW game on Tuesday and where jolly excited! He will be playing as an late British Infantry company with a few Shermans on hand (M3A1 if I'm not mistaken, the ones that come with the starter pack) and I'll be playing as late PzGr with a couple of Stug III or IV's (again from the starter kit). One of the things where keen to do is learn the game correctly and not through interpretation of the rules, I know that never truly possible, but if anyone has any suggestions on things that we should avoid, things that we must do and any rules that have cropped up as confusing and since been debated and agreed upon then I'd really appreciate the comments!

Where keeping the game fairly basic and plan to play a couple of games to get used to the rules. The other question is markers. In the starter kit I only got a few of dice which are just normal D6's just coloured, in terms of GW, is there the equivalent of scatter dices, templates that are essential before we play?
Please excuse my chaotic spelling and grammar, I am Dyslexic, to my friends that means I am retarded and should always wear my water wings and helmet.

Smoke me a kipper i'll be back for breakfast

for tank on tank dice only are needed. once u get to artillery u'll need an artillery template.

actually you can get markers for bailed out and bogged tanks. checkout 'gaming sets' in the fow section of our shop.

The only drawback with FOW in my opinion is that the rule book seems to be all over the place. When we first started to play we would stop to look up rules only to find them in a totally unrelated section - Morale, Commanders, Snipers etc. However if you are just using tanks from the starter set you should be Ok as i think you will find that the tanks are the simpliest to understand.
Rember the modifiers for distance and armour aswell (Because we didnt pick the armour one until late in the game.)
Also be aware that when you add in infantry and artillery the game opens up vastly and is even more fun.

The best way to learn I found is to play as much as possible so if you ever get down to Redcar on a thursday give me a call and Id be happy to give you a game - you can even borrow an army

I have found FOW to be the most fun game I have played so far so I hope you enjoy it mate.

i second chris' comments. it is my favourite game presently. the biggest plus for me thoufh, and im sure ive said it before on here, is the larger battlefield on which you play.

because its 15mm your 6x4 ft table ends up being 4 times larger than a typical 40k or wfb game. this allows more out manouvering of your opponent to occur, adding a big new chuck of tactics to be ussed.

aso making an army at that scale and painting it is alot easier too. :)
