Brushes?

Postby Cain Tiberius » Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:46 pm

I don't know about everyone else, but I have been finding GW's brushes are getting poorer and poorer quality. The last set of Citadel brushes I bought, flayed as soon as I dipped them in paint.

Can anyone recomend a good brand/make of brush?

im finding the army painter ones to be pretty hot

three sided handles, alot easier to handle than gw's

i stockpiled gw brushes months ago, so i cant speak for their quality lately, but i've always seemed to go through them rather quickly

i miss the old blue ones :(

Army Painter brushes are probably the most comfortable I've used and do a reasonable job but my favourite is a Winsor & Newton Series 7

AP ones are quite nice, but I swear by Vajello brushes and paints.

Lol
Well looks like ArmyPainter will be the direction I will go for now. That is what the majority seem to be going with.

Thanks for info folks.

I use Army Painter brushes for most work but I still have a number of Windsor and Newton.

I only ever bought 1 GW brush and TBH the quality did not impress me at that time.
I ended up using it for drybrushing!

I generally use a 2 foot roller.
Fine details are applied with a "jackson polloch" in the manner of a fast bowler.

I've just started using these (available from HobbyCraft / WHSmiths and presumably other good art shops)

Windsor and Newton Cotman for me. The difference to GW brushes are like the difference between fine silk and pig bristle.

I had the good fortune to be near a Hobbycraft the other day. Their Winsor & Newton range didn't seem to be well maintained (they were mixed up very few of the finer detailed brushes available).
But, I did pick up some ProArt's 'Minature' range. They seem to be working out alright so far. And they have the three sided grip like I think someone said the ArmyPainter brushes do.
