2014 1st Quarter Project log for everyone

Postby RotweillerofJustice » Sun Jan 05, 2014 11:18 am

Thought I'd kick this off as I've kind of made it a New Years resolution to stop making a kit and then only half finishing it.
So I have a rule now that if I start something this year I have to finish it before moving on.
Also. Because I have so many models unfinished, for every new model I make and paint I have to then complete two models or units before moving on to the next new model.
I wonder how long that will last!?!?!
To kick off I have the broadside I got for Xmas.

I remember saying that to myself a little while ago, I think it was 2009 lol didn't happen. :(

But im now at the stage whereby theres not a lot I want to add to my 5 armies. So now is the time to get them all painted. My aim from this point on is to paint and just keep going. I shouldn't get bored because I have that much stuff I can just jump from one scheme to the next. I do however like to batch paint so atm I'm painting my kalabite warriors. theres 50 of them, so I have them in 10 going through each process:

first lot are undercoated, next 10 are drybrushed base colour, next 10 are washed, next 10 getting high light brush, next 10 washed again and then last 10 are currently getting detailed.

more details to do yet, but they are coming along.

January: Anvil's Hammer model + other 3 Darklands models

Not sure about Feb/Mar as there's another Darklands shipment due, until I have those models in hand I don't know if I'll continue with them or switch to another system (and not planning to make scenery or objective markers atm so won't be in contest, planning to enter all the Q2 ones though).

I've got a couple of space marines to finish up, then there will be a small package dispatched by Gav and Nige to paint up.

I really should do something, not really painted anything for a year or so. Think I will try and get some of my Dark Angels done and make a start on the Bolt Action British starter set I got for my birthday in August. Well that's the plan anyway, although I'm sure real life will get in the way. Ok, World of Tanks will at least!

Damn I didn't list my other projects for this quarter...

I have an imperial compound I'm making. The tiles u may have seen already, and there will be high wire fencing and imperial fortifications painted up for that also. Maybe even a custom bunker depending on how adventurous I'm feeling.

There's my imperial Skyport too to finish. I'm also making terrain to match that. Basically more of the pink foam carved into large rocky outcrops.

Then there's the anvils hammer paint job which will probably result in me painting up the rest of the four man grotesque squad also. So lots going on here. And 3 months should be long enough to get it all done. ;)

I have set myself quite a target as I have to get 22 Shermans, 6 M5 Stuarts and 4 M10 tank destroyers (in 15mm) built and painted for the Call To Muster show on 22nd March.

I'm aiming to assemble (on average) 1 model a day this year (minimum). So every quarter means 90+ models being assembled.

I'm aiming to paint an Ogre army in Q1 and also complete at least 2 Deadzone factions (with some terrain too).

I also have a least one model to paint per month for the Ironwatch magazine. This month is the last of a trio of goblin characters. I've not decided on the other 2 months yet though.

This year Ive promised myself that I will build every model I have in my collection and make a dent in the massive amount of painting that I have outstanding. Im too scared to write it all down however as it would just put me off. :|

What is it they say about the road to Hell and good intentions,,,,

I've probably done more this last fortnight than I did in the whole of last year. Since Christmas Eve I've painted all the infantry, bunkers and terrain, not including the Bridge from Warlord Games 28mm Pegasus Bridge Set. I have also made 48" of barbed wire and painted an Italeri 1/72nd Horsa Glider for the game.

For Flames of War I've just completed a 3 gun battery of 15cm Nebelwerfers with command and observer and a 4 team Machine gun platoon. Currently working on a 6 gun 10.5cm battery for my Kampfgruppe von Swoboda list.

My New Year resolution was to do at least 1 hour painting every day and if I miss a day do 2 hours to make up for it. So far I am ahead of schedule, for once.

The amount of things I have that need painting means I will be painting every day for at least the next 3 years. And that's being optimistic.

Right back to painting. Now where did I put that last pot of Devlan mud?

When the Devlan mud runs out, use Army Painter Strong Tone ink :)

I've ran out of that for the time being. I use all 3 of the Army Painter inks usually. Will pick up another pot from the shop when back at work tomorrow. It is good stuff.

I managed to paint 3 ogres last quarter. Which I think is all I painted last year due to moving house and whatnot.

So far this year I have completed the construction phase of my foldable X-Wing table! I may post some pictures - I'm 1st coat staining it tonight...
