I just dipped today's batch

The dip on the squigs has drained away from the upper row of teeth so I'll haveto fill in the black once they are dry. I'm quite happy with the way the rock lobber turned out, all that wood grain creates a lot of detail for the dip to work on.

Excellent work guys!
I think Im going to have to try some of the army painter stuff to get some of my 40k stuff done.
Going by one of your pics, am I right in thinking you dip the model then brush off any extra?
Yes I study Psychology, no I can't read your mind.........yet!

Fantastic work in 2 short (or rather long) days!
Very good results from the dip as well. Food for thought for sure.
Now go have a beer and relax a bit! :D

Yep. We originally shook the dip off but this can damage the figures and you lose a lot of dip. We now dip and let it drain off fo 30 seconds or so back into the pot and then brush the rest off with a tank brush (damn GW for not making those any more!). With large models which cannot fit in the pot you have to paint in on and let it drain back in as before (or if you are low on dip and the model only dips halfway up it!). You occasionally have to dab away any pooling with a brush or tissue once the miniatures are all done. With the army builder stuff you have the time to do that as it takes hours to dry. If you are dipping with something like ronseal quick-drying woodstain... you have what it says on the tin...20 mins!

Remember, my daemons and Jon's rats are using the strong tone dip (dark brown). These orcs/goblins are using the dark tone (black) to match them with the figures Paul already painted for me and washed with his black ink/varnish mix. It actually matches quite well. I've not tried the light tone dip yet.

The difference with Paul's models is that he leaves them with the gloss finish. I'm going to spray matte varnish on these ones as per normal. Jon leaves his dipped models shiney however.

Thanks for the comments guys :) Jon is back over tonight to do some more!

At 3.15am!? I know a lot of pubs/bars can now open 24 hours a day but I was in bed! Sitting down for two days is oddly tiring 8O

Looking good Matt - must dig my O+G army out again at some point. They actually stand a chance of being painted now I know how to dip. Love the squigs in particular, but as you say that woodgrain makes the rock lobber work well with the dip.

I doubt I'll do any more this weekend now - it'll be gradually during the week (fingers crossed). If the weather is good tomorrow I might spray up everything done so far.

We'll post pictures as things get finished.

I just took everything finished this wekend out ot the table in the shed to put it back with everything else. I'm considering leaving the current shiney finish as it matches the ones Paul already did for me...

Hmmm...

There is defintely (green) light at the end of the O&G tunnel now. Still to do:

Finish the savage orc boar boyz
Some orc archers
Some orcs with shields/choppas
About 25 goblins
About 30 goblin archers
The boarboy command group I made up
The giant
Various named and general charcters
Some orcs still on their sprues

...that I can think of at least. I know I need a couple of wolf chariots but beyond that I think I can wait for the new (8th ed) book to come out next year. Another big group shot is a must at some point as is making sure everything is up on our club site gallery.

I'll keep this thread going with updates as they happen.

WLH needs to add some minor details to the storm vermin and then base them. He needs to finish the plague monks (some detailing) and then dip and base those also. Pics to follow (at some point..).

Just done some quick sums and without any characters, magic banners, major unit upgrades (so only what the models show and unit commands) I have just over 3100 points. Of course I can't take all of that together due to roster restrictions (unless we are playing a legendary battle). Once characters, magic and the like are added in I reckon I could field a legal 4000 point army and possibly 5000 points or more for a legendary battle.

Not sure how many points of rats there are now.

lambchomps...He got that look for a halloween party, let me find the photo...

A small update. Stage one (knarloc gren) on the skin. I like plogs because I can read what paint I used last time and match it :)
