What's Everyone Playing These Days?

Postby markb » Sun Jun 14, 2015 3:04 pm

So what's everyone playing these days at the the Raiders? It's my birthday soon and our lass wants to know what to get me so I thought this would be the perfect time to get something new. I already have DzC, FoW, Bolt Action and X Wing, GW stuff is not an option, so what is the next most popular game at the club?

Infinity is on the rise.
FOW is played on occasion and would be played more if we could get more players.
40k is still being played but not as much.
I miss Dropzone commander but its not played regularly.(waiting for dropfleet)

Cheers Chris. I'm back in August and am definately going to make more of an effort to come down to the club so maybe I can give you a few games of DzC.

Basically I'm looking at buying/getting in to one of the following and need some advice as to which would be the best one to get the wife to buy me:

Infinity. I would buy the Operation Icestorm boxset and go from there.
Star Wars Armada. Because who doesn't want to fly a Star Destroyer!
Dreadball. Putting my scepticism of it being a Blood Bowl rip off to one side, coupled with the fact GW don't do Blood Bowl any more, it seems to be fairly popular.
I like the look of AvP but that seems more of a one shot game along the lines of Space Hulk.

I'm looking more at skirmish games than mass combat games mainly because, well, you all know how efficient I am at painting! So what do you think would be the best option to invest in?

There is a Dreadball league being run at the moment with about 8-10 players involved.
Infinity is a quick skirmish game and you dont need a lot of models. Hell, we have even got Leigh playing Infinity and he hates Sci-fi games.
Armada is also played but only a few of us have it at the moment.
AvP is due in at the end of this month so wil know more about that then.
Chris and I have just started playing Terminator, very good ruleset and quick to play. we are looking at playing it on a bigger scale.

Cheers, Gav. I'll have a think about it but it may be Infinity along with some new models for X-Wing. I really like the look of the Infinity models, some very nice sculpts. Expect a visit from our lass in the next couple of weeks!
