Rubies Darth Vader Supreme Helmet Modifications

Re: Rubies Darth Vader Supreme Helmet Modifications

I've reached the point where I don't think I can do anything else except paint it, so tonight it's had the first coat of gloss black. Here's the final primer coat.

Will check it tomorrow to see how it looks, hoping the cold doesn't affect the paint adhesion or curing, to help it I stood the spray can in warm water for a few minutes before using it.

Couple of really bad photos of the mask and dome in the tool shed, the dome is on top of a broom handle so the edges don't touch anything.

I'm finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still needs a clear coat, new tusks, and maybe new mouth mesh, but I'm happy with it so far.

Since the last post it's had a couple more coats of gloss black, the mask has had the gunmetal areas painted using Peugeot Steel Grey, and the nose painted with aluminium effect paint.

Got some better tusks, the Rubies ones are thick and chunky and don't have the knurled base. Here's a comparison

Rubies are on the right, on the left are some made by UK Sand Raiders, these are the first pair they've made. Both sets are aluminium, but the UKS ones are closer to how they should be.

We'll have to destroy them ship to ship, the force is strong with this one, no disintegrations etc

It's completed, but I need to get some decent photos taken which will need some better daylight.

In the meantime I've set up an Ikea PAX wardrobe frame with shelves in the attic, and some LED lighting (fitted some black plastic edges to the underside of each shelf with 45 degree clips holding the LED strips). The cardboard boxes will be replaced with clear acrylic risers (which will hopefully be here tomorrow :)) and I've still got to add the trunking for the wiring (needs cutting to length and painting black before fitting). I've tried to keep it fairly minimal - there are two lightsabers on the front of the top shelf that you can't see due to the angle, but otherwise everything on there is visible. The figures are a mix of Marmit (stormtrooper, sandtroopers, TIE pilot, AT-AT driver, Boba Fett), a couple of old Hasbro (snowtrooper, biker scout, royal guard, imperial gunner, Palpatine), and a Sideshow Vader.

Managed to take some photos of the finished helmet today, although with the mist and fog I had to do it inside so they're a bit grainy.

It needs polishing, and might need a few more coats of clear coat to even out the surface, but that will have to wait until the weather is warmer and dryer.
