Strike Force Arias - A DIY Chapter 'The Cerulean Guard' log

Postby Kobrakai » Mon Sep 22, 2008 3:13 pm

Hey there!

I have my DIY Chapter 'The Cerulean Guard', so I decided I have enough stuff of their's to start a project log.

So here we go!

1st Company Captain.
Image

As you can probably see he has no firearm, but I've remodelled that arm to have a gauntlet mounted storm bolter, so stay tuned and updated photos of him will be around soon!

Mixed shot of Tactical Squad, Predator and Razorback:

Tactical, Dreadnought and Vindicator:

Assault Marine Chaplain:

Then more recent photos:

A overall shot of all 5x10 man tactical squads and the chaplain and captain:

Finally my assembled command squad ready for paint:

New rules say command squads can have all storm bolters, so I thought why not? Also based my commander on the new Pedro Kantor model (will be using his rules too) Add into that a few Iron Warrior helmets I had laying around in the bits box, I think it works nicely.

Stay tuned for photos of the finished command squad, terminator captain, then WIP of my Sternguard squad, Librarian, and something a little special after that.

Many thanks! C&C always welcome :)

Very pretty, blue without being "that" blue :)
Awesome face on the captain.

The chaplin looks strange to me, are his legs sororitas legs or bionics or something? looks like he's been on too strict a diet :) But then that fits the whole must be propelled through the air kind of thing. Whats his story (model and or fluff wise)

KillMaimBurn: Thanks! Yea it's a nice blue which I stumbled upon, so i'm really happy how it turns out.

As for the Chaplain, His legs are the iron hands bionic legs set, which I thought (Considering he's on jump packs) It would be good for the whole flying / jumping thing, plus you rarely see bionics like that on Chaplains.

Spack: Thanks buddy, I'll keep it as up to date as I can.

Boris: Thanks again! The new codex gives you so much to play with, it's definitely a excellent time to be collecting marines!

Hey Kobrakai - looks like you have done a fair amount of work :) The command squad should look cool once it's completed.

Only things I would say are that the vehicles look a little plain (need tarting up a bit and making the dozer blades less shiney (mud!)... although that could just be he camera flash doing funny things.

I still maintain it's the wrong colour blue! Heresy!

I need to paint more infantry... god it's boring. What do you prefer painting? Troops or vehicles?

Hey matt.

Thanks, i'm looking forward to painting the command squad, I need to do some research as to what colours to use etc. but should be happy with how they turn out.

There's nothing heretical about that colour! I always thought it was quite Regal :)

As for preference, I don't really like painting armour, too much flat colour everywhere, but I agree the vehicles need a bit more detail work. not sure what to give them however.

Painting infantry is a chore, but I try and set myself targets; if I paint 10 tactical marines i'll treat myself by painting a character model or a veteran or similar.

My dislike of painting armour will hopefully diminish when my 'something a little special' gets into production :)

Great stuff, but one quibble: Those nasty mold lines on the chaplains arm and bolt pistol!

Looking forward to more updates!

The command squad is really nice - I especially like the apothecary lurking at the back there.

And I'm loving that gauntlet mounted storm bolter :D Great work.

Nice work, but there are some things that bother me. You took the time to paint them nicely, but you didn't take the time to remove the mold lines or drill out the gun barrels. I am wishing that you had as they really detract from the nice paint job.

Culven: Knew there was something I forgot to do when I 'finished' them, i'll drill out the barrels tonight. As for mould lines, I don't know where their are any on the command squad, I spent hours meticulously going over them.

Unless you mean the Chaplain! Then yes, I hang my head in shame about him, he'll get filed again and patched back up :)

Thanks everyone though
