Summer 2016 Painting Contest

I've washed the lightsaber hilt, will post up pre and post primer pics tomorrow once it's dried out. Might have to do a little repair work as it looks like one T track was cast a bit thin and has split at one end.

Did some cleanup of the obvious areas such as the pour spout, and added an initial primer coat to highlight any cracks or holes that will need filling. Lots of sanding and filling to do once the primer is dried.

I used an old wire coat hanger to hang it from the garage roof, a 1mm hole was drilled in the emitter and the wire fits tightly so it won't slip off.

I may have to duck out as the company that was doing my loft insulation has lost all funding before finishing up the job. And as the loft room was going to be where the board/table was to be built and live I'm both out of space to make it at present and out of pocket trying to fix the mess that's been left behind! My plan is to still go ahead with this project I'm just not sure when it'll be... I'll let you guys know more when I get started.
What, no image sigs!

Managed to do the first sanding and rough filler application. The sanding really helped to highlight the areas that needed filling due to bubbles in the surface. I've used Humbrol Model Filler, it goes on fairly easily although it surface dries very quickly, but when completely cured can be sanded to a glass finish without much trouble.

Should have the next update on Sunday, aiming to get the filter sanded smooth and a fresh coat of primer on. Hopefully I'll get the base coats of paint on early in the week, and the chrome powder on next weekend.

First coat of satin black is on.

Hopefully will get the second on later today, then leave to cure for a couple of days before masking, sanding, and clear coating. Should be able to get the chrome on next weekend.

I've finished the cult, but I can't seem to put the picture in the entry gallery.

I'll give it a go later, as I have to retake the photo. Somehow the 2 genestealers aren't in it, having infiltrated out of line of sight!

This week I've added more coats of satin black and a couple of coats of clear lacquer. After leaving it to dry for a few days this is the result.

Image

Today I masked the edges of the black areas that are next to areas that will be chromed.

Image

And then covered the body in C1 Metalizer powder.

Image Image

When it goes on its a bit dull, but a quick rub with a soft pad shines it up nicely.

Image Image Image

Then the making tape was removed.

Image Image

I've also bent a piece of old coat hanger wire into a D ring shape, it'll need sanding and chroming before fitting but it looks about right size wise.

Image Image

Still lots to do - painting the rivets on each T grip and the circuit board on the control box, tidying up the D ring, and satin clear coat on the grips and shroud to reduce the gloss.
