First Warhammer 8th edition Game.

Postby Belly » Sat Aug 21, 2010 5:45 pm

So, me and a mate played our first game of 8th edition yesterday. 2000 pts Choas vs my Vamps. It was close but I just managed to get the upper hand...

But while playing we both realised one thing.... We hate the new system.... It's really bad :(

I'm just pleased I didn't waste my money on GW minis and got cheaper one's from alternative companies!

So now we are stuck for a new game to play (not 40k cos it sucks balls)... Anyone know of any good systems (pref fantasy) as we aren't big sci-fi fans
Very gutted with GW, they ruined a good game :(

What is it about 8th you don't like? Thought about giving a bit longer than just one game?

As for other games Crocodile games make a pretty good fantasy game.

If you don't like 8th, perhaps just go back to playing 7th.

Pretty much hated all the close combat now... It's ok, I don't need to give it another go lol... I've been playing WFB since 1989, I know when it's poo... But perhaps thats the problem, I've played it for so long, I should probably play something else!
A few mates have suggested some fantasy rules, so I'm checking them out now!

RIP WFB!

Oh dear, using frothers as an example is like killing a fly with a hammer, the fly is dead but now you have to replace the window.

Well, Frothers over the years always made me feel welcome, and speak their mind (don't get me wrong, it's not perfect). Which I like, and 'I' think Frothers is a good forum (IMO)... And so far they have made me feel more welcome that this one tbh lol. And I think this is because you guys seem nice, but don't generally have people disagreeing with your comments. That's what a forum is about... A chance to tell people what you think, not just agreeing with everyone elses!

The fact you just laughed at me for expressing an opinion just proves my point. Also the fact that I voiced my opinion that WFb has now become a big pile of turd (IMO)in the same thread makes it look like 'oh he's attacking one of our fav games, lets gang up on him...' Now I'm Lol'ing
You seemed to make you forum look quite one minded from one post... Well done mate  . And also, I go on loads of other forums ( FoD, CoC, Carpe Noctem to name just a few)... All of which let people speak their mind...

Ahem.... Anyway, back on track and topic. I was after advice for an alternative game. Not to be slated cos I like another forum and don't like WFB. TBH I probably asked in the wrong place, as 'it seems' (I could be wrong) you only know stuff about GW stuff. Otherwise I'd have had some more suggestions!

Sensible response.
estarriol wrote:If you don't like 8th, perhaps just go back to playing 7th.

There are a chunk of people out there who still play 40k 2nd ed, and space hulk 2nd ed.. If you don't like that someone has changed something, don't change, you have all the stuff you need to ignore the change.

Alternative game,AS IN POINT OF THREAD, estarriol broughtthis up a while back.. it looks good and generically ready for any model you want to throw at it.

Forum wars.. meh.
Here.. we argue (haven't recently but were known for 18 page arguments where we could still basically be grown ups),FANBoi status-I sit and dribble about the good old days when 40k chaos was something other than just random..everyone bar 1 of the accountants berates the price increases) and several regulars think and post to the effect that WFB has always been a pile of donkey faeces regurgitated from the withdrawal of a raping elephant phallus.
:D
If Belly wants to vent his spleen let him, join him..if you disagree (given that there are already other positive WFB threads) maybe it would help if I said
[RANT] How dare GW power spiral the crap out of X,Y+Z just after they told ruffian that his £500 special (required) upgrades were now just decorative versions of the £5 ones [Rant off]..you'd generally steer clear of that thread, non?
Barely even lurking..

Impetus does have a Fantasy variant as well.

Look sorry if I upset some of you (obviously I did)... And thanks to the guys that actualy answered my post. Not got a problem with you lot...
I expressed I wasn't happy with the system. Got some answers and big thanks for that. I also showed I wasn't the only one that didn't like it by posting a frother link. I wasn't starting forum war... However why laugh cos I like Frothers Stunty? I wasn't starting a fight, you just though you were clever laughing at me cos I like another forum? Don't get it...?

Someone has said to probably leave it as I'm swimming upstream with this one. A GW dominant forum is probably not the place for someone who has 25 years of wargaming experience and wants to try something else/ something new. Probably right to be honest!
Maybe just leave it at that. Like I said sorry if I offended you.

Welcome Belly!

Say what you like as far as I'm concerned, not really sure where any offence would come from, tbh.

Actually, I don't think I have ever seen a wargames/rpg/whatever rules set that was much cop. Something always sticks out like the proverbial.
Call of Cthulhu (overly simplistic, but = best rpg ever) vs Aftermath (so complicated, it was called after math = total poo game).

Never been to frothers, but the name does sound RANT ON!
Fair enough!
