Warhammer 8th rumour round-up

Some interesting things here. I'm really looking forward to the new edition to see how much of this is really true. There could be some BIG changes to the way the game and armies play.

I have to sya I hate it when BoLS does this. All they've done is copy-pasted the most recent Warseer Rumors thread without making any alterations.
I know some people don't like Warseer but the Mods do a really good job of keeping the rumors up to date an all in one place these days. Simply reposting their work is wrong.

As to the rumors themselves if true they will amek a massive difference in fantasy. The ability for cheap units to match up to expensive ones in sheer attack numbers (mobs + extra ranks) can only be a good thing. Maybe we'll see scavenslaves in more than 20 man chargebait units.

^That.

Their Necron one was/is hilariously bad, being a collection of all the ideas that have sprung up over the years - the should have titled it "wishlisting summary"

its things like that why i don't really pay much attention to rumours - until i've read through a new edition and had a few games, i don't want to get too exited, especially after the hissy fit i had pre codex chaos space marines, and when that eventually came out, i actually like the changes - even if i am alone on that one!

They do say it's collated information and it's presented much better than on Warseer. Reading the latest roundup there (which isn't even in the rumour round-up section) makes my eyes water.

I'm looking forward to seeing big infantry blocks. I'm not sure about the freedom of movement or random charges though.

I've heard a lot of these rumours floating around but if you look at them in the cold light of day and consider that 7th Edition is not as bad as everyone thinks - A lot of these rumours feel like peoples guesses than concrete design decisions.

My take on the list:

Likely True:
[*]Crush attack for larger creatures
[*]40mm models moving to 3 model-wide ranks.
[*]Multiple objective driven scenarios in the rulebook
[*]All non-english rulebooks are moving to inches.
[*]Models will only ever get one save (be it ward, mundane or magical armour). No word yet on whether regeneration is included. From Alessio himself!

Unlikely as too much of a change/effect on army books:
[*]Army construction is moving back to percentages.
[*]Strength in Depth/ Stepping up (models may fight in 2 ranks)
[*]All missile units fire in two ranks (not just High Elves). Missile units will not gain a rank when shooting from hills.
[*]Combats are strictly decided in initiative order.

Still not sure but know system has to change:
[*]Power dice aren’t generated by the number of spellcasters. The pool is decided by 2D6. Magic users add their magic level to the score rolled. All Wizards have a chance to generate more power dice.
[*]Autobreaking from fear or terror is gone.

[*]Army construction is moving back to percentages.

Of all the changes this is the one I most hope is true, assuming that's on top of the current slots system.

(Despite how much it'll screw my High Elves, but that's because the army book is pile of dung anyway).

I think percentages will be OK but whether they keep it with slots or not is another matter. I guess if they don't it might be possible to spam cheap units within the % allocation unless there is a capping rule in place.

Whilst I agree with 99% of what you say.. it should be noted that this time they are copy pastering from dakka.
I don't see why people report links to BOLS rather than just going to original source and just copy and pastering themselves.. easier for the readers.. better credit/citation chain for the people who do the original work etc etc.

If they are all true I might just start playing fantasy again. The rumours seem to answer all my major grumbles about the current game.

You mean my original post to start the thread?

Not LATD :D
But yes- why not display the original info and cite and credit it fully, or just link to the original, which has far superior formating.

Because I'm at work and don't have time to trawl the whole internet?! I'd not seen a summary like that before and linked directly to it...

I don't mind people linking too information, that's the purpose of the internet (have you seen?) and gives traffic & business to the originators
What seems to have happened is that BoLS has copied from DakkaDakka which was copied from the Warseer Rumor thread round up without changing it, altering or adding to it. And given no comment.
Copying for the purpose of commenting is fine, as it is is simply plagerism.

It's the same situatution I findwith online Flash games, the are many sites who don't produce anything just relist original games with their own advertising. I always try and play on the producers own website.
